PostPosted: Wed Sep 29, 2004 11:40 am    Post subject: lsass.exe each time I click on any hotmail icon Reply with quote

I have XP Pro and have noticed that each time I click on any icon within hotmail.com, it takes atleast 5 to 7 sec for the cursor to show underline on the icon (to be able to click). When I open Task Manager, I see that each time I am clicking on some hotmail icon, the lsass.exe process comes up on CPU utilziation, and then goes down.

Why is this lsass.exe process getting executed each time I click on hotmail (like on read, delete etc).

This does not happen on any other web pages (I have yahoo too)

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I've read through all the solutions. Unfortunatly, since the computer will not boot into windows, nor will it boot in safe mode to the cmd prompt, none of the solution are viable. Does anyone, including microsoft, have a REAL solution to this problem? Thanks.

do all you people get this very regularly or is it just every now and then.

Ive recently started getting this problem but its on the odd occasion ive ran numerous online scanners, normal anti viral scanners, removal tools, spyware tools etc none of which worked, however i think what is causing it is other .dll files failing, in turn they make the lsass.exe fail and then because of the way the lsass.exe is it make the RPC box pop up and restart windows to fix the failing module, im not sure if i read it here but you can stop the RPC box appearing when lsass.exe fails by typing services.msc into the run box, you then find have to find the remote procedure call service, right click it and select properties then click recovery, change the first failure, second failure and third failure to restart the service, this seemed to stopped my pc producing the 60 second shut down box and instead displayed an error box saying lsass.exe failed and that it is restarting the service back up

the .dll files that i have found to cause the lsass.exe to fail are msvcrt.dll, mshtml.dll, ntdll.dll

hope this helps for some people who have tried everything and dont want to format or have formatted repeatedly

by opening the event viewer you can see what might be failing for you or whatever and track down the source (run then enter eventvwr.msc then look under application), i found the error code lsass.exe was producing, tapping this into the MS website highlighted one 1 error relating to windows server 2k3 and so no proper fix for 2k or XP, you might be able to find a proper fix for youself, other than that my other concern is that theres yet another, blaster/sasser worm variant running amok that hasnt been caught

I have a problem with a system wanting to shutdown after logging onto the internet. I formatted the HD and installed WinXP, then installed the ISP software and Norton AV 2004. There are no viruses found. When I log onto the internet, after a few minutes, I get an error stating that the LSASS.EXE had an error. After this error I get the message that Windows is shutting down in 60 seconds. I can abort the shutdown process, but since the LSA service is no longer running, I cannot do anything that requires administrator privileges, including shutdown. Any ideas? HP Pavillion 8650, WinXP, AT&T Software, and NAV.

I checked the HP website, they dont recommend WinXP on this system. I also had the problem with Win2000. I may have to go back to Windows 98.

Thank you,
Dave

I loaded xp from 2000 in the time it took to register the xp online I was hit by viruses giving me the lsass.exe message ........thru speaking to various IT support engineers I reloaded 2000 ,downloaded free software from avg,ad-aware,spybot,with a zone alarm or alert firewall as well as norton to sweep the hard disc each one picked up different types of virus I downloaded all the windows updates and sevice packs .when all was clean I loaded xp virus free.....lenghty process but worth it

I guess what I am trying to say is that basically I am also still stuck with this LSASS problem and dont have a solution yet.

I have heard of LSASS removal tools and I want to know if anyone recommends a particular lssass.exe removal tool and why you recommend a particular LSASS.exe tool over the others. I am sure this information will help me will this LSASS error but also others.

Microsoft Windows XP people - LSASS.exe should never of shown up on my computer if you people had patched windows in time... 6-8 months before an lsass.exe patch was released is crazy!
Help me...

Would work, except that Windows sees this as a CRITICAL PROCESS---meaning you CANNOT close it via the Task Manager.

My parents computer (XP Home) started having this problem yesterday. It started when I unistalled the modem, hoping to reset some other problems. Now, after being connected to the internet for about 3 to 4 mins., (without ever opening Internet Explorer, or any other browser) I get the 60 second shutdown message every time. I'll try some of the solutions presented and see what happens tomorrow. Thanks for the help...I hope.

I had the problem that every time I tried to download the fix my computer would shut down before it finished. If anyone else has this problem, as soon as the warning message pops up, go to Start Menu->Run and type "shutdown -a" (Without quotation marks) and it stops the shutdown process. Hope this helps.
