Still trying to cancel vonage but at least I found Skype
I am just beginning to realize how much a pain in the butt Vonage is.
Still trying to cancel my acct.
If anyone knows anything that seems to speed up the process, I would love to hear it.
Otherwise I will keep reading on the internet trying to find a way.
On the other hand, I did find Skype.com which is the opposite of Vonage.
Inexpensive/free and works well.

Stay away from Vonage
I recently signed up with the Vonage broadband telephone service. After receiving the required equipment I installed the phone adapter and had it running in 15 minutes. The new equipment worked for about 24 hours and then malfunctioned or died. I asked them to send a new adapter after speaking with a technician. He thought it was the phone I was using. So, I grabbed another phone to make him believe that it was the adapter not the phone. After reluctantly agreeing the tech said it would be sent next day air. Two days passed and no arrival of the new adapter. I called the company again and asked where was my new equipment. The rep blamed the delivery company (DHL)and said it hadn't been sent. Plus, I was billed $100 for the new adapter. After talking with rep for an hour, she said I would be credited for the charge. I did a few days later, but still didn't receive the adapter. Because of the dim-witted service I then cancelled it and asked them to cancel my Line Number Portability(LNP) transfer. They said it would be cancelled and the number would not be transferred. Eight days later my land phone stop working. I called my carrier(Sage Telecom) and they said it had been transferred to Vonage. I called Vonage and they said there was nothing they could do. I lost my service and my phone number. I'm still waiting to get a credit from Vonage for the first months service and the dead modem. Which I sent back and they received on Aug 31st via UPS, it’s now the 6th and still hasn’t been processed. Since my old number was lost I had to re-establish my service with SBC and pay a $47 connection fee. So, I'm out $47, shipping costs and my old number plus I’m still waiting to be credited by Vonage for their equipment.
We've had Vonage since Dec, 2004 and have been very happy. Our cable connection speed varies and sometimes we experience dropped calls or echo. I think of it like a cell phone, not perfect. I especially like getting my voicemail via email so I can archive it on CD. Now I can find that phone # from last week that I would've deleted from a regular voicemail system.

help divorcing from vonage
I just called vonage for the millionth time this month trying to get them to release my phone number back to SBC. I have been waiting for a month now and no progress.
Someone I spoke to at Vonage gave me an interesting piece of information that she said I should give to SBC so that they could get my phone number back. She said that SBC needs to send and email message to the following address and that they need to submit an LSR to this email address: portout@choice1com.com
LSR stands for Lost Service Report. I asked the woman why I didn't receive this information a month ago. She did not know why. I feel like I'm in hell trying to get out. I'm tempted just to give up on my phone number but I can't because it is also a business number for me and for my boyfriend. The connections with vonage are terrible. Calls drop out all the time. It is really embarrassing to be on an important business call and suddenly lose the connection. I can't believe vonage calls itself a real phone company. Their customer service is horrible too. The people I speak to do not know very much. When I ask to speak to a supervisor I am told that nobody is available.
I actually waited 5 months - April - August of this year to have my number transferred to vonage from SBC and then by August I was disgusted and cancelled with Vonage. But I didn't realize that they had just gotten my phone number. So when I tried to set up my service with SBC again I was told they could not do it because another carrier owned my phone number and besides that I didn't have a dial tone. So then I had to reestablish service with Vonage. I did that and now I have been waiting a month to get back to SBC. I have never been so frustrated in my entire life. If I was a drinking person, I would be smashed right now.
That's my sad story. I am actually on hold with SBC right now. They are trying to find out the progress

Stay Away From Vonage
Absolutely the worst experience I have ever had in my life. 2 consecutive days of excuses of why I have no dial tone and my system doesn't work. On top of the 2 months it took to get my number transferred. Paying for 2 services is always cost effective. I have had my number now for 2 days. I am disconnecting from Vonage today. FYI, if you have a home alarm forget it, your system is now usless. They will try to tell you it will work, BS!!!! I will let the world know that Vonage SUCKS BiG BALLS!!!!!! STAY AWAY FROM THESE CROOKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go back to your land line.

Should Have Done My Homework
Vonage turned out to be a real nightmare. I wish I'd of found this site before doing business with them. They are the WORST. I place my order 1/15/06. Finally 3/7/06 I got my final connection email from them. All the while, I'm still paying my previous phone provider. I'm paying 2 telephone bills. I finally cancelled Vonage on the 17th of March. They are charging me 139.00 to get out of the contract and for the wireless router that I paid $49.00 for (the price after the rebate). Now I have to pay for this router the original price (which should only be $20.00 max.). I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND VONAGE TO ANYONE. THEY SUCK!!! [/b]
Good luck getting rid of Vonage. I would never recommend anyone to use them. I didn't have any touble getting rid of them. My problem was it took from Jan 15th to Mar 7th to get completely connected. They disconnected me immediately after I told them to on Mar 17th. I am now with mypeople (had never heard of them) and they are great. Different kind of company and the customer service is excellent, and even better-- they are right here in the good o' U.S.A. Just thought I'd pass that along.

VONAGE SUCKS DIRT
I had vonage for three months and never used it because it was too complicated. I think I spent about 175.00 for nothing including the fee for cancellation. Stay away from Vonage.

BEWARE OF VONAGE
I wish I would have done some research before signing up with Vonage. I've learned a very costly lesson, both time and money. Please do your homework and hopefullly you will not make the same mistake.
My mistakes with Vonage were:
Giving them access to my bank card.
Believing when they said 10-14 days for telephone # transfer.
Believing when they said you get a free month of service.
Believing that there is a 30 day guarantee.
Trying to resolve problems via customer care, billing, tech support & e-mail.
By giving them access to my card I have been charged for service, fees & charges that I did not expect. I am now in the process of cancelling my card before further charges are posted. Latest charge of 121.18 for cancelling service which I never had. It was still in process!
I was originally told that the # transfer would take approximately 10-14 days. That was a joke. I cancelled after waiting 47 days and it was currently in process and no expected date could be determined.
When I asked about being charged 27.72 the first month and not even having service, they replied they charge 1 month in advance.
Your 30 day guarantee begins when you sign your LOA(letter of agreement) not when your service and transfer has been completed.
As far as trying to contact them, GOOD LUCK! I'd be a rich person if I had
a penny for every minute I was on hold, I'm talking hours!!!!!!!!!
E-mails went unanswered or noted # in process. Transfers from department to department repeating your inquiry then mistakenly being disconnected or put on hold and forgotten about.
I originally signed on with Vonage with hopes of cutting down on my phone bill which runs approximately 52.00 per month. This past two months have cost me my original phone bill along with the Vonage charge of: $11.45 unit mailing
$27.72 first month (supposedly free month)
$121.18 disconnection charge
TOTAL $160.35
Again, this is a costly mistake I made for believing in a service that could save me money. I feel I have been ripped off by a company that I consider to be nothing but a scam. I report this to anyone who has had a similar experience or anyone who is considering signing on with Vonage.
If we all spread the news, hopefully we could put a stop to this so-called
service. I feel sick to my stomach every time I see an ad for Vonage

Re: BEWARE OF VONAGE
You are not alone. It took us three days to cancel. 6 hours after telling us the account is closed and there will be no additional debits we check their web site. To our surprise there was an $80 charge for yet another VoIP router we didn't order and the account wasn't closed.
We cancelled the credit card under bank advice. Another 8 hours of phone calls just to get an eMail to confirm it’s cancelled. But, why is our account login still active? . . .
We tried to get an RMA one of the defective VoIP junk we received, something we couldn't do with "Customer Care". Vonage insists their computer will only let them send an RMA for a VoIP router which they didn't even ship (yet)! I know we'll never see a diime of the promised credit on the routers even though we cancelled in the 1st ten days, I feel better knowing our credit card is now defunct and a fraud investigation has been initiated.
Take my word, if you haven't signed up STAY AWAY!!! There is no such thing as a FREE ANYTHING with Vonage. They will milk you for all you've got. If you have signed up already, cancel your credit card immediately and work from there. . Believe me, I'm still trying to get FREE of VONAGE virus.

Vonag is the worst company ever
Vonage has been the worst company I have ever done business with. the sad part is I never got to try out the service. Their equipment wouldn
't work and tech support was no help. So I returned their stuff and it took me almost a month to get someone on the phone to cancel. Then they tried to charge me $115.40 to cancel a service I never used and had a 30 day money back guaranty. stay away from Vonage!!!

Getting word to the Better Business Breau
GOTO: http://complaint.bbb.org/ and file a complaint with the Better Business Breau of New Jersey, 1700 Whitehorse Hamilton Square, Ste. D-5, Trenton,NJ - 08690-3596.
The comapany is: Vonage, 23 Main Street, Holmdel, NJ 07733
You'll even get a nice note back like, "Thank you for using the BBB Online Complaint System."
Filed my complaint while I was on hold with Vonage "Customer Care". A few days later (without any additional phone calls) ALL money was credited back to my account! Try it you'll like it. Even if Vonage didn't take your money, let the BBB know what Vonage is doing to people like yourself.
