Hi All,

If you want to protect your computer from any spybot or worm you need to download windows security patch to close security hole in your windows system.

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

And if you are already infected with w32.spybot.worm you need to run any antivirus program that can remove worm from your system.

I tried all of the above removal steps after contracting what symantec's antivirus identified as W32.Spybot.Worm. Incidentally, my virus definitions were up-to-date and the virus software informed me that the virus had been successfully removed by deleting a file named "b.exe"-
The message was incorrect. I could not get into task manager, regedit or dos command prompt and programs kept starting on their own. Like I said after trying all of the recommended manual removal steps(some of which I had to boot in safe mode to get into(like regedit), one set of actions that I found on an obscure website actually removed the virus.

They are as follows:

1) look in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup - if you had the same virus I had, you will see a file called svchost.exe

2) reboot into safe mode - delete the file and empty the recycle bin.

3) reboot normally.

Hope this helps someone. I'm sorry if this offends someone, but if I could get my hands on the yutz that wrote this virus, I'd break his thumbs !

I am running XP and Norton Antivirus. Recently Norton Antivirus found w32.Spybot.Worm. Norton Antivirus is unable to clean, repair, delete or quarantine the file. I tried their instructions to delete in Safe Mode and it does not work because every time I try to run regedit it will open and immediately close out. I am at a loss on how to get rid of this virus. The file it has infected is Windows\System32\winsock.exe

How to solve this ?? Please anyone help !!

Hendy,
I am running windows xp and have no winsock.exe in c:\windows\system32 . There is a winsock.dll

If there is a winsock exe in that folder, go into safe mode and delete it.

then reboot normally.

Does anyone know what THIS is and how I can get rid of it? The Norton Antivirus window said no action can be taken because "access to the file was denied" I clicked on the Norton link and this is some of the info I got:

"W32.Spybot.Worm is detection for a family of worms that spreads using KaZaA file-sharing and MIRC. This worm can also spread to computers that are infected with common backdoor Trojan horses.

W32.Spybot.Worm can perform different backdoor-type functions by connecting to a configurable IRC server and joining a specific channel to listen for instructions."

!! Please Help Me !!
