Error 678
Hi all
I am writing concerning this awful error 678 . The difference is that, I am on the other side of the curtein - an ISP. I don't have a DSL system, but I have 56k fax modems that clients dialin to hook up to the net. Then suddenly one morning I noticed the number of clients dialing in had dropped, then later on clients were calling in saying they are receiving error 678 . I noticed that one group of phone numbers (since I have two) was not picking up calls. When I use the phone to dial any of the numbers, there was no problem, but when I used my PC to dial-in, I received the error 678. So the problem should be the phone lines. I just contacted my telecom company, and they are verifying.
So this is just to let you guys know that error 678 is not just a problem from the client, but might also be due to a problem from the ISP.
I'll keep you guys informed!![/b]

678 pain in the...
hi there, new to this forum, just checking MORE resources on how to fix this issue.
I work for verizon online DSL, and i would like to help you, but the problem is that the error 678 is "A vague indication that SOMETHING, SOMEWHERE, has SOMEHOW: Gone Wrong..." I know, it sounds stupid, but it's not, the problem can be the sockets on the operative system, you might have spyware, your user and password of your main acc is being in use in another place somewhere in the world, it might be an error on the DSL phone line, it can be your NID(network interface device), it might be your modem, your network card, your wireless config, etc etc etc etc.
i will give you the usual troubleshooting but do not expect to fix your problem if you dont do what you have to do, usually with Net sh you can fix this issue very easy
here are the steps and if you dont know how to do something try to google it
netsh
repair connection
release/renew ip
flush dns
delete cookies
delete temp files
delete java programs from your "downloaded programs" folder in your browser's folder
disable firewalls (all of them) you might have firewalls in the modem or router, some do have some others do not have, you have to check it out
disable antivirus
regular maintenance to your computer (defrag, scan disk, etc)
call your ISP and ask for a Line Test
in your connection propperties try to use DNS, instead of the "get automatically"(ask ISP for it)
try forcing the IP's
modem PC = gateway-192.168.1.1 IP - 192.168.1.47
[modem bridge] router pc = gateway - 192.168.0.1 IP192.168.1.100
modem [router bridge] pc = dont use this one use the modem as bridge
connectoid = Use DNS preffered and secondary(ask your ISP for it), get IP automatically
and the most important (stop downloading porno xD )

Can anyone help me resolve an "ERROR 678" ?
Can anyone help me resolve an "ERROR 678".
The WIN2K Advanced Server is connected directly to an Internet connection (NIC1) and an Intranet connection (NIC2). No firewall is installed. The service was created using the "Manually configured server" option. No filters are currently installed. The local users accounts are "dial in" allowed. A local address pool is configured for 6 users. Remote access policy is set to "Grant All". PPTP ports are set for 6 users, L2TP ports are set to 0 users. No static routes are installed.
By all rights, this is something no one should do... However.... I can’t connect with a VPN client on the external connection; I can on the internal connection. Also.. I can’t ping the server or connect via terminal services on the external connection , I can on the internal connection. If I stop the service, I can have full access on either interface.
Once the service is working I will secure the system. Got any ideas??

Please help me to solve 678 Error ???
Hello Guise,
I have Windows XP Media Center - everything was working alright until yesterday. I was surfing and wanted to disconnect. I clicked the status bar of my connection and the DISCONNECT button but I did disconnected cable from the modem before the connection was gone. I got some error like cvhost or sth... I cant remember
As a result I cannot log on now....
I receive an 678 Error : There was no answer.
I tried all I could with uninstalling Modem, making new connection, restarting with and without both.
I use the same cable for Fax and modem the fax is working so the line is good. The modem seems to be alright the number I dial is also good. Modem dials normally and even this special sound of transferring data is normal but for a short while... abt 2 seconds. Than it stops and error pops up. Is there anything I can do?

guest error 678 ,This error means that your wireless device is nor enabled, connected to nomadic or sending/receiving as it should. Make sure that the card is switched on. Some laptops have a physical switch on the laptop to turn the device on. Also, go to 'Network Connections' and make sure that the wireless connection is enabled.
