Hi,

You can remove windows media player with Windows Add/Remove Program. After removing Windows Media Player still wdfmgr.exe showed up in your task bar then open system32 file and try to remove wdfmgr.exe from this folder.

Good Luck!!!

Hello All,

I was halting some processes that were clogging up my system which was pretty successful until I halted wdfmgr.exe. About 30 seconds after that, my PC suddenly rebooted and will not get back into XP. It then keeps rebooting until I physically turn it off w/ the power button. I think that the file is now corrupted and is a critical component of the OS. My friend thinks it is some sort of Windows Driver Foundation which assists in certain processes.

As far as I can get into the booting process is the Windows Welcome screen (The one that says Windows XP and has the blue running line underneath.) Then the screen goes dark and nothing else happens. After about two minutes, it reboots again.

I tried every Safe Mode, VGA mode, etc and they all hang up. Honestly, I don't care about recovering anything except the My Pictures folder in my PC. Everything else is of no real value. Anyone have any advice or ideas? I appreciate it.

Wdfmgr.exe showed up on my computer also after I installed wmp10. I am having lag problems, and my i-speeder shows im downloading like 13kbps I don’t know if it from this but I am not doing anything else. I don’t notice any unusual programs in task manager. Also isn’t mspmpsv.exe also wmp if so that program is taking up way more resources than it needs to also under system and local user. Whatever though just gonna have to turn em off.

Hi Pamy143,

Wdfmgr.exe is not a virus. Everyone think that wdfmgr.exe is a virus but actually this process is used by Windows Media Player and in your case i think your auto updater for Windows Media Player is ENABLE. Thats why it shows 13kbps downloading. This autoupdate will always search on any updates on Windows Medial Player and if he found anything than it download using your internet. I suggest you to use ZoneAlaram to stop this and other programs to access your internet. So keep your eyes away from Wdfmgrits not a virus and never cause any problem.

Hello Guise,

I noticed that the wdfmgr.exe service was not running, when I open windows media player, so I tried to enable it. This would not work, as I get the message "Service can not be started, no errors found".

Please help me to fix this error!!

Hi sam,

As discussed earlier in this forum that wdfmgr.exe is used for safe running of Windows Media Player. And you noticed that wdfmgr.exe is not running on your system thats why its not possible to run Windows Media Player on your computer.

Hello Guys,

If wdfmgr.exe is the automatic update for media player 10, I just shut off the service with no affect on performance.

How to stop automatic update??

Thanks for any help!! Smile
