Zone Alarm Pro Firewall Problems- Installing & uninstall
I Installed it and cause more problems then it was worth, uninstalled it and now I have still got problems. The Internet when it works it running extremely slows. Many times I get DNS errors on web pages and will have to wait for a while before the page will work. My question is basically how can I get rid of/change all of the residuals from ZA back to their originals.
If you are having persistent connection problems even after running the Zone Alarm uninstaller,
manually uninstall Zone Alarm by following the steps below. Note that the steps differ depending on
your operating system.
~~~~~ Windows 98/2K/XP
Step 1: Start your computer in Safe Mode.
Enter Safe Mode with administrative account without networking. To learn how to start in Safe Mode
refer to Windows help. Go to Start | Help, click the Search tab, then type 'Safe Mode' in the search
box and click List Topics.
Important do not start ZA/ZAP, or run the uninstaller, while in Safe Mode.
Step 2: Remove VSDATA registry entry in Windows 98/ME only
Important, Deleting registry entries incorrectly may require reinstalling your operating system.
Always make a backup copy of the registry before editing. Perform the steps below with
extreme care, or seek help from someone familiar with registry editing. For further information about
registry editing, see Windows help.
1. In the Windows Start menu, click Run...
2. In the Open box, type regedit.
3. In the Registry Editor window, use the left-hand navigation to locate the following key:
Win 95/98/Me/XP
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\VSDATA95.
4. In the right pane of the window, right-click the key, then choose Delete from the popup
menu.
5. Choose File | Exit to finish.
Note After editing the registry in safe mode, you may get a VXD error when restarting your
computer. This means Windows did not allow editing of the registry in Safe Mode. If this
occurs, press Enter. Restart your computer in normal (not Safe) mode, and then repeat Step 2.
Step 3: Delete selected files
1. Using the Windows search function, locate and delete the files VSDATA95 and/or
VSDATANT.
2. If you want to keep a record of previous alerts, copy the ZALog files from the Internet Logs
folder to a safe location.
3. Using the Windows search function, locate and delete the Internet Logs folder.
Step 4: Cleanup
1. Empty your Recycle Bin.
2. Restart your computer.
Step 5: Complete Uninstallation
At this point, your Internet connection should function normally. To complete the manual uninstall,
you will follow steps posted on the Zone Alarm Web site.
1. Go to http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/supp...pInstallFAQ.jsp.
2. Under How do I unininstall, then reinstall Zone Alarm, click the link for your operating
system.
3. Under Uninstallation step 1, begin with sub step A, then follow all the remaining
Uninstallation steps.
~~~~~ Windows NT
To manually uninstall Zone Alarm from a Windows NT system, follow the steps below.
Step 1: Log on to your computer as an administrator
To learn how to do this, see Windows help.
Step 2: Show hidden files
1. In Windows folder options, set Windows to show hidden files. To learn how to do this, see
Windows help.
Step 3: Rename vsmon.exe
1. Using the Windows search function, locate the program vsmon.exe.
2. Change the name of the file, and write down the new file name. You will need to locate this
file again later.
3. Shut down ZoneAlarm and restart your computer.
Step 4: Delete selected files
1. Using the Windows search function, locate and delete the files VSDATA95 and/or
VSDATANT.
2. If you want to keep a record of previous alerts, copy the ZALog files from the Internet Logs
folder to a safe location.
3. Using the Windows search function, locate and delete the Internet Logs folder.
Step 5: Restore vsmon
1. Locate the renamed file from step 3 above, and rename it vsmon.exe.
2. Restart your computer.
Step 6: Cleanup
1. Empty your Recycle Bin.
2. Restart your computer.
Step 7: Complete Uninstallation
At this point, your Internet connection should function normally. To complete the manual uninstall,
you will follow steps posted on the Zone Alarm Web site.
1. Go to http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/supp...pInstallFAQ.jsp.
2. Under How do I unininstall, then reinstall Zone Alarm, click the link for your operating
system.
3. Under Uninstallation step 1, begin with sub step A, then follow all the remaining
Uninstallation steps.
hope this helps
You can use the version of 'Zone Alarm' that is part of Computer Associates' eTrust EZ Armor.
EZ Firewall is a very strong and feature rich Personal Firewall. It performs quite well and is very simple to use. EZ Firewall looks exactly the same and has exactly the same features as Zone Alarm Pro but EZ Firewall performs a bit better. EZ Firewall is basically Zone Alarm Pro under a different name. We prefer EZ Firewall to Zone Alarm Pro because its $10 cheaper and it doesn't slow your system down as much.
A good strong firewall that will please both advanced and beginners in Internet security.

You can get a free one year trial of eTrust EZ Armor: eTrust EZ Firewall(Zone Alarm) and Antivirus.
The antivirus does not check email, the firewall does and it does not rely on signatures-so it always up-to-date.

They have updated the firewall now. That was the 2004 version I reviewed. They have just released the 2005 version which hopefully will be reviewed by about December/January.

i tried to uninstall xp so that i could go to the safe mode of Win 98 but in vain.now i hav win xp bak,
i sthere any solution to fix my windows 98 as i can't start it at all, is there a way to delete zone alarm from Win xp as to start my windows 98
If you are having problems deleting ZoneAlarm or experiencing problems with True Vector software, then try this fix. This instruction set is from Zone Labs. Do this even if you think you have removed all of ZoneAlarm, you will be suprised. I followed up with JV 16 Power Tools and cleaned the registery.
Please do the following. If any of the steps below do not apply to you, or
you are unable to perform the function listed, please
CONTINUE to the next step.
1. Open the ZoneAlarm program, go to the OVERVIEW -> PREFERENCES
tab, and make sure the Load At Startup box is Unchecked.
Close the program, then right-click on the ZA icon and select
Shutdown. Wait 2 minutes before going on.
2. REBOOT.
3. You should now have no ZoneAlarm processes running on your system.
4. Click Start -> Programs -> Zone Labs -> Uninstall. Be sure to say YES to
the security check.
WARNING - Do NOT run the ZoneAlarm Uninstall program while in Safe
Mode. The program may not be able to make the proper registry changes
in Safe Mode, thus generating errors after a reboot.
5. REBOOT.
6. To make sure that you can see the ZoneAlarm system files, if they are
still on your computer:
a. Right-click on Start, then left-click on Explore. When the
Windows Explorer panel appears:
- In Windows 98SE: Click View -> Options (in Windows 98, this will be
called "Folder Options"). Click the "View" tab, and then click the "Show all
files" radio button.
- In Windows ME, XP, 2000: Click Tools -> Folder Options. Click the "View"
tab, then click the "Show hidden files and folders" radio button.
b. Make sure you also uncheck the box to "Hide Protected Operating
System Files" if you have one.
c. When searching, be sure it searches ALL hidden files and folders.
d. Click OK.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Making modifications to system files may disable
crucial functions of your Windows operating system. We strongly suggest
re-enabling the "Hide files and folders" feature once all
ZoneAlarm files have been removed. See the following web page, and
verify that the files and folders are removed:
7. Click on Start, then Search or Find, and select Files. Make sure that the
location box is set to search your local hard drive (usually C or All Local
Drives. XP users, set advanced search options to search ALL files and
folders!
Type the following exactly - delete any folders found:
zonelabs
"zone labs"
"Internet logs"
Type the following exactly - delete any files found in \Windows or any
subfolder below it, or in your \Temp folder):
vsdata.dll
vsdata95.vxd
vsdatant.sys
vsmon.*
vsmonapi.dll
vsnetutils.dll
vspubapi.dll
zaplus.*
zapro.*
zlparser.dll
zonealarm.exe
zoneband.dll
vsinit.dll
vsutil.dll (please right-click, Properties -> Version to be sure it is a ZA file.
Do NOT delete this file unless it is a Zone Labs file!)
GLB*.* (delete any of these that you find in any of your TMP or
TEMP folders)
Type the following exactly - delete any files found in any folder
with "Programs" in the pathname):

I guess people just have a Hard Time Seeing Any Differences In all Of The EZ Armors look feel, settings ,etc.
It uses less ram because it IS JUST AN OLDER VERSION OF Zone Alarm, Re-Badged and resold. Go To zone labs.com to become a Re-Seller.
A slightly older version of ZoneAlarm's firewall re-badged and without as many features, EZ Armor tries to persuade us it's a better buy - but cheap ...

After you get online, Open Program Control in ZA Right Click on explorer to start with, click Options, UNCHECK Allow this program to access the internet through "OTHER" programs. DO This For ALL Programs. This Is How M$ Has Alwasy Gotten Their Collected INFO Back To Them. This Setting is Hidden and Not Spoke of. I Wonder How Much ZA gets to Let all The INFO Through?????????
