Help! too Slow network connection in Win Server 2003 |
|
|
I'll going to buy a Windows newbie, I've been using Macs all my life, but I bought this one to learn some stuff for work.
After an initial Windows installation, it will connect to my network but *only* if it is connected to my Linksys router directly. If I plug it into my 3COM switch, it does not work.
I finally got the network working fine yesterday after a fresh installation of Windows 2003 Server. I was moving around some stuff in my computer room and connected the Win 2003 box to the 3Com instead of the Linksys. The machine was not able to get an IP or connection of any kind. I tried connecting it to the router and after a couple of times disabling/enabling my ethernet card, it got an IP and a connection, only it's extremely slow. It takes 5 to 10 minutes to connect to AIM and websites time out before they load.
I tried pinging the computer from another computer on the network and there was less than 1ms of lag. I am also able to connect to the IIS server its running, but EXTREMELY slowly (less than 1kb/sec).
I have tried that:
-reinstalling Windows
-different versions of Windows
-different ethernet cables
-"Repair" button
and nothing works....
any suggestions fo your PC? |

I'm not so sure... But it is on the motherboard of my PCs.
Get a PCI NIC, and try that. |

Are you using DHCP for dynamic IP assignments, or are you manually assigning static IP addresses to your PC's?
Try "ipconfig /release" and then "ipconfig /renew".
As already pointed out, the concern is that your PC should not have the same IP address as your router, which by default is 192.168.2.1. |
