Hi,
i just recently started having this problem. I have two Win XP PC's that are connected to my WRT54G v.2 router by wired connection. I cannot get on the internet with one the PC's and I also cannot access the linksys router controls by that IP address on that same PC.

I type 'ipconfig' on the dos prompt and the IP is indeed 192.168.1.1. I ping that ip aswell and get four replies. Now, turning on/off the router but I still get a 'page cannot be found' error in the browser.

Can somebody plz help this is really irratating me and I would like to get on the internet.

Thanks for any help.

Try clearing the IE browser temporary files cache to see if that fixes the problem

if "ipconfig" shows 192.168.1.1, that means that that IP is assigned to the computer, which would explain why you can't get to the router.

Your computers should have IPs that are *not* 192.168.1.1, since that IP is already assigned to the router.

Please can anyone tell me what to do?
I got a Linksys WRT54G Router/Access Point device that I dont want to use as a router but as a wireless bridge between two seperate LAN networks, the first with about 20 computers and internet connection, and the other, about 60ft away with about 4 computers on the LAN.
I have successfully setup this bridge before using another AP device (Encore product) but one of the AP was damaged by lightening and I decided to replace it with this new one since it has added functionalities.
I have tried following the installation procedure but it seem the procedure specified were not made for using the device as AP. Moreso, I have tried opening the 192.168.1.1 on my server on the LAN with the internet connection and the page is not opening.
Could someone please tell me what to do?

here's where you go
the reason you have that IP is that's your routers IP, not your computers actual IP address. even if it says it in ipconfig. gype in that ip 192.168.1.1 then u leave the user name blank and type "admin" as your pw and it should let you in.

Im trying to forward my ports so I need to know. Ive been to www.forwardport.com and the first or second step is to type in 192.168.1.1 into your web browser (fire fox for me).
oh and if your trying to forward your ports u keep Obtain an IP address automatically off. You need to dot in Use the following IP address.

Note I have been using this for months and decided I would log in
and do smoe changes, I found that i could not connect to gateway.
Would keep coming up with Google search engine.

I have two users logons my XP desktop two for my self and two other
users logons in the family.
I tried clearing everything on the internet tempory files no luck
I then tried my second xp logon and went on no problems, also
tried the other XP users logons and they worked.

Can only think that some thing has gone wrong with my mostly used
XP User Logon have not found out What yet.

But the answer for now is create another logon go to internet explorer
and it will connect if the address is 192.168.1.1 or whatever it is.

I had the same problem but I was able to connect to my router setting on another computer on my network. What I realized was that whenever I tried to connect to my router (Linksys WRT54G) using my Google address bar I kept getting a list of web pages with people having the same troubles but when I went back to using the IE address bar I was able to reach my settings with the 192.168.1.1 Go Figure
Good Luck
