Hard Drive Swapping Question – HDD to HDD data transfer |
|
|
My aim is to replace my current 80GB with a new 200GB one. I also have another 80GB drive with personal files. I need to get the stuff from the old C: to the new drive, without burning discs and that, I want to be able to HDD to HDD transfer.
If I install windows on this new drive, make it the new C: and connect the old drive as a slave where F: was, will that work, and will I be able to access the files from the old drive just as I would have been able to my personal files?
Thank you VERY much in advance for a quick reply! |

Norton Ghost is the way to transfer the content of one drive to another.
If you make your new 200GB drive the 'master' and the 80GB drive the slave, you can boot from the new one. Accessing your files is straight forward, but you'll need to be familiar with the directory structure.
E.g. <drive letter>:\Documents and Settings\<username>\ ... etc. |

I was just going to transfer a lot of video and maybe a program or two. It's too much to burn though.
Do I have to use a program like ghost or can I just boot from the new one and access the old one, will the old drive become Drive F? |

| Yeah, it will work just as your current F:/C: works. Only difference will be that your C: drive will be the partition you boot off (200GB drive) and the old drive will be whatever letter Windows assigns. |
