Dialup connection problems |
|
|
Hi Guys
I'm currently having problems with my Virgin broadband account. The connection seems to be dropping out a lot of the time. For example, I connected to Virgin broadband this afternoon around 2.30pm, and between then and 5.30pm broadband has had to reconnect 35 times. The dropouts occur randomly, every few minutes usually, and usually the modem connects again within 10 or 15 seconds, though sometimes it takes longer. During these short dropouts, when the connection resumes, I do not have to reconnect manually, the internet just starts again where it left off. This has been happening intermittently over the last few weeks, and it's now becoming rare that I get a connection that is stable for any length of time. These last 3 or 4 days in particular have been the worst and it seems to be getting worse every day.
Is this a fault with my equipment, the physical BT line or with the connection to Virgin.net? If you could suggest anything I could try to narrow down where the fault lies, this would be a great help. |

| how are your wires ran? are you using a splitter? usually when you use a splitter, it adds 3 to your upstream. and if your ISP caps your upstream, this will cause for you not have a stable connection. You might want to contact your ISP and find out more information on that. If you're running through a hub or router, or any of those things, you might want to try to get a "direct connection" (cable modem str8 to computer) and see if the problem still presists, this will help you narrow the list down so you can find out exactly what the problem is. |

I am also the same user facing similarly problem like you. I checked with its my neighbour’s speed and also complained to the phone company. Please do it and Check with the neighbour’s speed. You can download a small program WinMTR available on www.mirror.ac.uk. Please run it on your computer after connecting and If still the problem occurs tell it to your ISP for the fault occurred on your system.
Hope it solves your problem.

I cant connect to the internet. I signed up to ping and whenever I try to connect to the internet, it says its connected and this will stay for 2-3 minutes then disconnect from the internet.
My modem is configure correctly and also my drivers is up to date. So what is the problem actually. Have you any suggestion? |

| Oh, I think there is no any problem with your dialup. You can stay connected after change access number. I think this may work for you. |

First disconnect from your dialup service. Then opening a command prompt window and type : ipconfig
This shows what DNS servers you are using and this DNS server is different for each ISP. And also try pinging a know address. Do you get a response from this? |

| Keep in mind when ever you have any problem you must specify your operating system so anyone check for it and give you better reply. |

Ok. For Widows operating system follow this easy steps :
Open the Control Panel >> Internet Options icon . Then click on connection tab.
Make sure that your current connection is Default and select always dial my default connection. Then click Ok. |
