Cable modem to a Linksys router (non-wireless) to a laptop.
I was wondering if it is possible to introduce a wireless router to my current setup? Essentially, I want to keep my non-wireless router active/in use, but I want to have the flexibility of going outside to my backyard with my laptop, using a wireless card.

When you buy a wireless router, it usually has default settings that work with most internet connections. It would be a great idea, however, to configure your wireless router for additional security and other features that you want. Most wireless routers have detailed instructions and are not hard to configure.

No problem. You can run as many routers in series as you like. I currently run two wireless routers on different channels. One router is plugged into the cable modem and the other router is plugged into the first router with an ethernet cable strung to the other end of my house. As I roam across my house, I switch between routers based on signal strength. No problems and no special setup.
