Shocked
Tad tad tad.. I was actually wondering about switching as well, until i found my thinking cap. It turns out that cable would be better to keep, but if cable "sucks" then dsl "blows." The first thing is the price difference, unless ur going for yahoo dsl, you are going to end up paying nearly twice as much, for the same speed. Also, review the two sites i included that gives a better idea on which to choose.

http://internet.about.com/cs/whatneedtoknow/a/aa_access111803.htm
http://compnetworking.about.com/library/weekly/aa081901a.htm

Here are some reasons to why one might be getting a slow connection:

It would be wise if you think of a solution to your slow speeds, then to switch.

Thanks,
Raja

Here we go again. I e-mailed for help throuth this system I'm going through now and it was returned to me. Your customer service has left much to be desired every single time I try to get help. On my home page, when I click "help" or "Webmail" or other windows NOTHING HAPPENS! It appears to me these areas are disable because you really don't care about the customer and really don't WANT to help.

The only way I found this site is "clicking" until something came up that appeared to be useful, but after my first request for support through this site, the service still was not there. Don't I always pay my bill on time? I hold up my end of the bargain, but YOU DON'T.

I have all POPUP blockers inactivated, but I still can't get to Webmail, Help, Customer Service. I cannot even go to a region, click SanAntonio and get anywhere with you people.

I try to sign in to my account, and get a window that will stay there for HOURS stating it is trying to connect, but never does. I downloaded RoadRunner Medic and it made things worse.

Come on, people. You have been doing this long enough to fix these bugs! It makes me wonder if your inept programmers really care about the customer. I will find out soon enough, and if no help is given - YOU WILL BE REPLACED!

If my tone sounds harsh, IT IS, because I have been sitting here for over an hour trying to get this straightened out, and frankly, I have better use of my time. Why will the support button not work? Why is it so hard to find a place for help? Why can I not sign in to the home page, although my username and password are correct?

I recieve e-mail easy enough when everyone else sends it, but not you, you bounce it back saying there are errors. What errors? All I did was click "submit". Yet another example of Poor, Poor service.

Please do not bounce this one too; I am sick of writing to you. I should not have to write to you - I should be surfing the web, getting news, and unlocking windows on your site. Why are they locked in the first place, I did not do it.

Please help. I CHOSE you as a provider, and if this type of service becomes the norm, I will CHOOSE another provider. I have your cable, roadrunner, awaiting digital phone. Is it worth losing all of those over incompetent staff on your part?
I would not think so. Evil or Very Mad

Used to think they were pretty good but that went to hell in a handbasket really fast. A few rebound periods to make you think its fixed is part of the evil of this service. Started in the TWC Albany district as a 3 meg service that delivered more than claimed. The increase to 5 megs took over a year to realize its speeds with the crappy ping times and lower than before speed. This went away briefly and I got Digital Phone. HUGE MISTAKE!! Now I have several time-a day outages, horrible ping times and get this, I think they are restricting my usage because I PAY for their phone too. Every time I fire up my BT client, both the phone and the internet die within 2 hours. Never used to have this problem and this is a global failure given the phone modem is on a seperate drop. I love BT but can't do crap with it anymore. Power cycle and reset the modem all you want. It won't get you back on any sooner. Time Warner Cable you suck and though my household has something against Verizon, I do not care. My wife used to have them with flawless service and I will even switch to dialup before I continue to put up with this. Yes, I can up more a day on dialup because it's not dropping every single time I get a good peer pool and killing phone at the same time. I listened to them some, I will keep you if it's fixed tomorrow on the tech call I have. If not. BYE BYE!

jackrabbit--

try turning down your internet security settings to low. it sounds like thats your issue with getting on the website. i can tell you now that the website works fine. if that site goes down its fixed ASAP. and if youre having issues with your connection, i would recommend calling and having a tech come out to your home to fix the problem. make sure that they replace all the wire in your home. even wires that are not connected to your modem can feed ingress back down your line. this will increase your noise floor and you will start to loose connection to the office. if replacing ALL the wires doesnt fix it, then it is possible that it is related to the modem itself, the ethernet card and jumper for your computer, or a larger system issue. that determination is up to the tech that visits you.

peace

To Hound: The problems you are having with digital phone can be a number of things. The most common is ingress. VOIP is much more sensitive to ingress than high speed alone. One reason for this is you actually can hear packet loss. If packet loss is more than 1% then you will have issues. Ingress noise on the line will cause problems. This can be from bad inside or outside drops or as simple as an old tv backfeeding the system. Dirty return paths from the pole to the node also. And lastly robotic sounds can be cause by something as simple as a small amount of voltage backfeeding from a hot chassis on a tv. Your problems are fixable. Lastly poor phone wiring in the home but if it was working with your local phone company before then it probally isnt the problem. You just need an experienced tech out to your house.

I didn't really have time to read through all the above comments, but I have too tell you. My brother had Road Runnner installed about 3 months ago. And right off the bat he begin getting attacks on the Firewall. These
attacks still continue today. They break right though the firewall like it
wasn't even there. Within no more than a week we had more than 2000 attacks. Within about 3 weeks just before the computer crashed as it has many times, we had more than 5000 attacks. Allthough they're trying to use a multiproxy, they've been real sloppy and got busted too the tune of their subnet 24.0.0.0 addresses. We've formatted the computer many times. We have contacted Time warner many times since this all started. They said one time this IP subnet 169.0.0.0 had nothing too do with them. They must have forgotten too get their story straight. They then turned right around later and said it was their IP address. Then I started really paying attention to everything REAL CLOSE! It looks like everyting's pointing to Time Warner doing most if not all of the hacking. We were told by someone that already had Road Runner before Time Warner's sorry and just before my brother had this service installed. WE SHOULD HAVE LISTENED !!!! <p>
</p>
Is it nornal for ISP'S too hack into their customers computers? I WOULD THINK NOT! SO TAKE IT AS A WARNING BEFORE YOU END UP ON THE SAME SIDE OF OUR MISTAKE! DON'T TRUST TIME WARNER, NO TIME, NO PLACE, NO WHERE, NO HOW! EVER!

It seems like at least 3 nights a week, right at 12:00 midnight, or very close to it my 5 meg drops to about 1 meg or less. WTF is up with that? I work late and play even later, so it really pisses me off that I can't game when I have downtime. God please let Verizon Fios be availiable here soon!!
