Can't enter Static IP Address
hi all,
I am having problems assinging a static IP address to one of my win 98 pc's. When I go into the TCP/IP properties, I click on the button to "Specify an IP Address," however when I click in the address field, it won't put a cursor there and when I try to type th e numbers in anyway, the pc just "dings" at me.
Any suggestions on what could be wrong? I tried Windows Update, but none of the updates there have anything to do with networking...
Thanks! |

hi,
how do you try and insert them? from the keypad? if yes please check for the num lock to be on.
other possibility you may have a program that had locked the IP field from the registry to Automatically detect my IP.
if you are familiar with registry editing and POLEDIT (a program that allows an easier redistry edit in win 98 se) you could try and insert the IP directly into the registry.
try getting an ad-aware program that will tell you of any malicious codes that may prevent you from changing the IP.
hop it helps, |
