Weaken Wireless Signal Strength
My problem is weaken wireless signal. Also, I would appreciate receiving recommendations regarding the most cost effective way to increase the wireless signal strength at the WG311 described below?
I am trying to share the ADSL Internet connection to my main computer by wireless networking to a second computer in my home. I have a Netgear WGR614 wireless router connected to my main computer and a Netgear WG311 wireless adapter to the second computer. These two devices are about 60 feet apart, with a few interior walls and miscellaneous furniture in the straight-line path between them. The WGR614 is about 40 inches above floor level, and the WG311 is about 5 inches above floor level in the far corner of the room.
At best, I get a very weak signal at the WG311, and I only get that generally during the mornings. The very weak signal is generally adequate for receiving E-mail and surfing the Internet, but as the day wears on, the signal strength drops to "no signal".
It seems to me that I am on the verge of getting adequate signal strength to the WG311 and that even a slight improvement might solve my problem of a weak and intermittent signal.
Can you explain me in detail, point-to-point your problem..
These all description only shows that the weaken signal problem. Is there are any other questions regarding that?
1. What are the chances that elevating the WG311's antenna some seven feet with the use of your RPSMA 7' Extenna will solve my problem?
2. In the event that elevating the WG311's antenna does not solve the problem, what are the chances that connecting your Cantenna to the WGR614 will solve my problem?
3. In the event that neither 1. or 2. solve the problem, what are the chances that both 1. and 2. together will solve it.
Your recommendations regarding the above will be greatly appreciated. Also, can you enlighten me as to why my wireless signal strength decreases as the day wears on? Is this a function of ambient temperature?
I read the article above and I agree that having the router away from the wall will be of benefit as the signal broadcasts out in a circular pattern; also if it's height up off the ground their will be less chance of interference from radio's, TV, furniture etc.
A good program to use to check the SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) problems and check your signal strength is nets tumbler available from http://www.netstumbler.com.
Hope this helps
