My friend and I both have dial up and I heard someone saying that you can directly connect two computers in a sort of LAN thing using dial up modems. Is this possible? Does it cost anything? And how do you do it?
The two computers are in different houses, which are far apart.

I believe Windows comes with "Dial-Up Server" which could be used for just that.

I believe HyperTerminal is what you want to research, at least on Win 9X machines.
