Network Connection Problem
I have been out of the country for 2 months. Everything worked before I left and I don't know what happened since. Problem occurs on one of the network clients only. It connects to the Internet but not the rest of the network. It is running Win 98 and I have checked it with the other network clients. The settings in "Network Neighborhood" are all the same, except for the computer name and the computer description of coarse. I don't know what else to try! The cables are all securely plugged in. I run an HP Pavilion 8560c(Win98 SE). The only hardware that I have changed since purchase in August 1999 is the NIC - now a D-Link DFE-530TX PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter (Rev A) and 96 MB memory has become 256 MB.
Can you please clarify your query? Do the other hosts on the network recognize the pc in question? How does the pc connect to the Internet? One of the first things with LAN/WAN problems is to check that all the correct protocols are installed and running - NetBios (NetBUI in 9 is required for a windows LAN. The IP subnet needs to be the same on each machine in order for them to talk to one another.
Frank, Did anyone else have access to the computers while you went? And by the way, you DO NOT need Netbui as protocol on windows networks. You can get along just fine with TCP/IP by right click on network neighborhood and choose properties.
I use my ADSL Broadband service since last 4 months. I am quite happy that it give me more faster speed - over 51.2 Kbps on internal Motorola modem on my Windows ME System. I encountered several problems like - I can not access some of the websites like Microsoft.com, sun.com, yahoo.com, hotmail.com.
- While file transferring with Yahoo messenger or ICQ, it did not finished to 100%.
I do a suggestion given by my friend in my windows registry but it can not worked well.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\NetTrans\00 00 and include MaxMTU=1454.
My small office networks have 3 computers connected with a router and a switch connected to my web server & mails sever. I do not know what security features needed for this network. Since I have two servers, so I kept static Ips & I use the two computers that are connected with Internet. I want to keep logs for those computers. Someone tell me that NIDs is best for that.
Can I run this on my servers or the other computers?
Can you suggest me how the other security issues for my network that I must have to follow?
I never gone for my LAN speed just use the Shared Internet connection. I have 3.2 MBPS out stream Speed on it & 2.4MBPS as inward stream. Which is my correct network Speed?
As per one of the article studied by me, user studies have shown us that as the web has grown, it is becoming increasingly difficult for people to find the sites and resources they want. And studies of new users have shown that URLs (web addresses) are not user-friendly. Because of these two problems, Netscape created the Internet Keywords system to help you quickly find sites for products, companies, and services without having to deal with long, messy URLs.
