I Can't Uninstall EZ Firewall, Even in the Safe Mode
Can anyone adivse how I might rid my computer of EZ Firewall? I've disabled it, so it is not affecting me. However, when I attempt to uninstall it, in safe mode or otherwise, I get the error message: "Error 1 Uninstallation did not complete successfully".
I tried to reinstall EZ Firewall to undo any possible file corruptions, but it would not reinstall unless I first uninstalled my Norton Internet Security software, which I don't want to do.

The Zonealarm uninstallation process which does not work.
When Zonealarm blocked my access to the Internet, thinking that a hacker wanted access, (and I appreciate their good intentions), its recovery process did not work. Nothing worked and in the end the good people from Dell came up with the 'http://forum.theispguide.com/isp-ftopic 1024.html' suggestion. Obviously not much use at the time because I could not access the Internet.
To all those of you who had problems with their Zonealarm uninstallation, there was in the end only one answer. Make sure that important files have been backed up and reformat the hard drive. All the knowledge on the Internet is not much use if you cannot access it, or spend much time to find the appropriate source to do so. I wasted 24 hours of messing about including a laborious search of registry entries, when in the end I solved the problem in a few minutes. If your are highly organised then a reformat and a reloading of your CD/DVD backup will not take much time.
The pox on Zonealarm for causing me much frustration and productivity.
The eTrust Armor firewall ON DISC in its free version, as sent from Mircrosoft, works as well as any and passes the Steve Gisbson test of stealthying your main ports. Loads up easily and bypasses any server, if you wish. Because its information is 'contained' in entirety on a dedicated disc, it would appear to me that chasing registry entries of 'eTrust' and 'Zonealarm' either manually or via 'Spybots's Regalyzer' may allow you to find all the relevant entries and perhaps prevent a reformat. At the time of my problem I was connected to Zonealarm via their downloading and thus have not ried my own suggestion here.
I consider that, unless you really have to, leave out of your computer anything which might harm you. The weakest link is you and, even I, who spends a lot of time sussing out computer problems, have found that I have not always been protected, and not because of my own sloppiness, but in one case the Norton 2000 e-mail problem de-activated my firewall without myself being aware of it. As it happens it does not matter because I do not put anything of importance onto the machine and leave it there, and when I do, I back it up on an outside source to be viewed with the internet off.
