My Dell PC constantly dropping connection problem
I have a brand new Dell Inspiron 600M with the Intel PRO wireless card. I had no problem setting it up on my wireless network Linksys router connected to DSL. My other PCs have no problems. However, the Inspiron drops the network constantly at every 5 minutes or 30 but a lot.
When it does, my only indication is that the network icon has a bubble pop up stating that there are various networks available, click to chose one. It is acting like whenever it sees a new net or loses one, it reconfigures and loses mine but maybe it is when it loses mine it just shows available options. There are 3 in the neighborhood but mine is by far the strongest and I always have excellent strength. I have it set to connect to mine first. I have seen no correction with my cordless phones as some have suggested. I have done all this using the (default) XP wireless software. I was poking in the Pro-choice software and it talks about setting up a profile and it sounds like it might solve my problem but didn't want to deactivate the XP settings until I knew more.
Anyone have any idea what is going on and how to fix it?
Thanks!
Thanks but I had already done those things on my own. I do not have automatically connected to non-preferred networks checked, and I do not have any preferred networks other than mine, which has a unique SSID.
Try disabling Windows Wireless Zero Configuration and use the utility that came with your card. To disable it, go to Start > Run and type services.msc. Then find Windows Wireless Zero in the list of services, double click on it, check the box to stop the service, the set the startup to Disabled. And Rebooting PC. If you need to get it back, just go to the services box again restart it and re-enabling to Automatically load at startup.
