Gaming on wireless


Would anybody recommend wireless Internet for gaming purposes? I'm not happy with my cable ISP at this moment and searching other alternatives. I may have a benefit that the wireless tower is just down to my street, so I think there the connection to it shouldn't be a problem. But still, will I be able to play games online as well as I could with DSL or Cable or should I work with my current cable connection?

I'm on wireless and I'm wishing I could get cable in my area.
I used the cable and it was much better for gaming. It may just be my wireless ISP though.

I have both Comcast Cable Internet and 900 MHz wireless internet. My wireless provider provides a 500K/500K connection. Pings on the wireless on a day average around 90ms to yahoo. In Peak hours it may be up to 130ms - 200ms. Fluctuation on my wireless connection much more wildly than a wired connection. Packet loss usually runs at the rate of 1%, which is normal.

Comcast pings are always in the 30-50ms range and in consistency. I tried to run VOIP telephone with Vonage over the wireless connection with very erratic results. I have been running packet 8 VOIP for about 2 weeks over the cable connection and it has worked faultlessly. I would suggest contacting the wireless company and seeing a demo of their service from a remote location to run some ping test and bandwidth tests.

My wireless connection is great for playing games and the pings stay steady and I really don't know anything about the “Canopy technology”, but it seems reasonable that there is a problem on your ISP's.
