I am using a D-link DI-514 router and DWL-520 adapter. The router and DSL modem are on my roommate's pc since he has the phone jack in his room. My PC, in my room, is about twenty feet away. There are only two walls between us. There are no appliances between us. The signal varies from excellent (rarely), through good to disconnected. This can change several times a minute to fairly steady for ten or fifteen minutes.

In the mean time, I've run some CAT5 down the hall, but I'd like to get the wireless going and avoid crawling under the house to hide the CAT5.

Any ideas?

I had the same problem with the 520 going about 30 feet. I tried new drivers - no help. Rotating the PC around would sometimes get a solid good signal. I returned it for another card. Same problem. Returned it and got a Linksys Wireless USB adapter. Has a small antenna and a USB cable? Always good to excellent I now have a 3rd PC about 10 feet away. Bought another Linksys and it always connects at excellent.
