NETBEUI works but TCP/IP not working on my Network.
I upgraded My NIC in my old Win95/P100 MHz machine from a 10MB 3c509 to a 100MB 3c905 and I loaded the applicable drivers for that. TCP/IP will just not work properly.
1) I have a Win98 & Win2K PC on my same home network as this Win95 machine.
2) All are using DHCP to successfully get their IP address from my LinkSys router
3) I use NETBEUI for file sharing and TCP/IP for Internet access.
4) I can successfully file share and print across all 3 computers using NETBEUI. Everything works fine.
5) The Win95 box successfully gets a DHCP address from LinkSys Router. I can release/renew & its just fine.
The problem is that I cant ping the Win95 machine nor can I ping from it. DHCP, ARPs and NETBEUI works.
An interesting thing that I see. If I start with repeated ping to the Win95 PC from another then boot the Win95 PC pings will succeed for awhile while Win95 initializes. But after that the pings stop working.
This P100 PC and the Win95 on it & about 5 yrs old. I had installed/uninstalled TCP/IP and patches about 50 times the past 2 weeks, spent almost 20-25 hours for trying to fix it, tried a Winsock 2.0 update also. Now I works as a sinking ship.
Hopefully the newer OS will be better. The reason I've chosen Win98 is because of the old processor. I think Win2K might be too much for it to handle.
