My Kingston soho hub has a switch with 2 settings:
5X or 5=

Can someone tell me what this setting is for? I don't have instructions to use this hub and couldn't find them on the Kingston site. I only get the instructions for their NICs..

5x= crossover port
5= straight through port

This means that the port can be used to either connect to a NIC card or to the another hub. The straight through port would connect to the crossover port on another hub.
or you could use the crossover port to connect with NIC.

Take in your mind : Don't use port #5, Just use #1 and #2 with straight cables. You can use #5 later if you get cable or DSL and want to use a router.

Hi Guys,
Sorry, to say that its understand to difficult.
So what you're saying to set it to: 5= straight through port? The system is peer to peer with a NIC in each computer.
