Hey guys,

I have a new system using Abit KT7A Raid Mother Board. Everything is just fine Except – The Lynksys Ethernet card. Win 98 starts to detect the card but it stops windows loading and also the Add New Hardware Wizard & every thing other freezes up. I gone into Safe Mode and looked in device manager and to surprise that it was listed. So it has been detected.

If I try and change the card into different slots I get the same freeze up action. Then I gone into the BIOS and loading the defaults settings. No progress. Then I made sure I had the latest Bios update. No progress. If I remove the card it boots up normally.

Now I'm going to install everything at a time starting with the Video and the Ethernet. It seems that this has worked so far but I only see the computer in Network Neighbourhood after a 1 and a half minute time lapse. Very slow since it is a two computer peer to peer network.

I'm suspecting IRQ problems. If you have any advice it would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mel

Did you get this worked out?
I have the same board and NIC and the same problem.
I replaced my PCI modem with an ISA modem and now it works fine.

Try playing the PCI shuffle. Back in the old days network cards had issues with where they were phyiscally located in the machine. Try moving it to another slot and that should fix the problem.
