I am thinking of buying a linksys 5 port switch instead of a hub. From what I have read a switch can be used the same as a hub but has a higher bandwidth. I have to
connect 4 PCs directly to the switch on my network - 2 Win98se PCs, a Win98fe PC and a WinMe PC. Does this works in a better way to than using a hub?
Any problems associated with this?

Thanks in advance.

It Depends upon the application and no of machines on the network. If there are 16 computers on a single 10/100 hub and they can transfer files between machines often, then I’m sure that you must get alot more bandwidth from the switch. If there are just three machines sharing an Internet T1 Connection or less then there won't be that much difference in speed.

Linksys claims that
”With a switched network running with NIC's running, you'll get 200mbps.
Some times, with a hub and NIC's running at full duplex, you may get 20Mbps.”

That’s a big difference and we must have to notice this.
