I have a Netgear RT311 router and having problems setting it up with a cable modem and Intel hub. When I run winipcfg to get the IP address which says it should be 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.31 I find 62.30.250.141. The subnet mask is 255.255.255.192. The default gateway is 62.30.250.192. The DNS server is 62.30.240.177. All these settings are for the NDIS 5.0 driver.

Am I doing something wrong?

Have you tried to set it up without the hub installed? The router should assign the proper IP and all other settings to the computer if it works like my Linksys router. I do not know if the hub could cause it to not be able to configure the computer but it is possible.

I tried configuring the router without the hub. I had to change the IP address and subnet mask of the router to be able to use FirstGear confiuration wizard. However the cable modem still works fine through the hub.The router and PC can communicate with each other. Is there any other way that I can check the IP Address of the PC and the router and the modem.Have you any idea what the host and domain names are likely to be?

Plug in your router and connect to it with a PC with or without the hub.

Make sure that you have the following settings to begin with on the PC:
IP address: 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS Servers: Your ISP's DNS servers. You dont need much else.

connect to http://192.168.0.1/ and go to the wizard setup
enter system name as was provided by your ISP... the identification name, something like cr-xxxxxx-a etc.
Press next
Choose ETHERNET encapsulation
STANDARD service type
Click next

For a failsafe, enter all the IP information
Use fixed IP address
IP Address: the one your ISP gave you
IP Subnet mask: the one your ISP gave you
gateway IP: your ISP's gateway
use fixed DNS Ip address: put in primary DNS server info

under WAN MAC address
Select spoof this PC's MAC Address - IP Address - 192.168.0.2

Click FINISH.

Now configure all the IP addresses of the other PC's.
