How can i find out if i am behind a proxy and/or a firewall.i have a wireless net connection at home and connecting with my “song spy” the Service Provider and it searched my network and said i was behind a firewall.

i am running win 2k.i have a 512K wireless home net connection with 1 computer on it.a few weeks ago my connection stops. I couldent get web pages? I ping out the IP Address and my NIC card is working and my service provider told me that there network is working. Then I lost all the info on my computer and I have to reinstall windows then it worked but sometimes only. What Should I do to work with it?

What makes you believe that you are behind either one?
I'm not familiar SongSpy Service Porovider, but from what their web page says “You will need port 7007 open.” Or any other.

How specifically do you connect to the Internet?
Do you have more than one computer accessing this Internet connection?
What operating system are you running?

OK.You're having problems with DNS on your network.

If your IP address is static or dynamic. Open the Command Prompt and type “ipconfig /all”. That will show your IP address and DNS servers. Make sure you're getting the correct DNS servers per your provider. If that all looks OK and you are able to ping addresses on the Internet

The only real way to find out if you're being routed through a proxy or having ports filtered is to contact your ISP. You may be able to make an educated guess by doing a tracert to a server out on the Internet and noting each PC's name and address. If one of the PC has a host name like "proxy.someisp.com". You could formulate a theory that those are proxys of some sort.

If they are using firewalls, you most likely won't be able to tell the host names unless they do something like "fw1.someisp.com".
