I currently have a hub connected with a DSL gateway.Two computers can share a 144/144 IDSL line. If both computers access bandwidth at the same time, the ping exceeds up to 600 and higher, instead of 90 when only one computer is accessing bandwidth. Would you use a switch to prevent pings from going so high?

I say yes it will. I recently purchased a Linksys 4 port router that‘s ping dropped substantially over my 8 port hub.
