Hi

I would need advice to start a small wireless neighbourhood ISP in
Beirut,Lebanon ,Middle-east
I want to get a two way broadband conection via satellite using DVB
technology
Could you please give me the names of good and reliable (U.S or
European) companies that cover the Middle east?

Is it better to deal with a satellite provider or a Telecom carrier?
I want to buy the Wireless equipement from the U.S, which is better:
-Dealing directely with the manufacturer?
-Dealing with the wireless distributor?
-Dealing with the value added reseller?

I'm implementing a Long Range Wireless LAN to 100 users that are
in my geographical area (300-400 meters), my budget don't exceed 6000$
The problem is that i can't use 802.11b because of the interferences
Which technology is better to use ?
if it's 802.11a, which brand is the most cost effective?
where could i find in the U.S a reliable manufacturer/or wireless
distributor/or value added reseller that export
"boosted wireless equipment" to expand the 802.11a signal(amplified
AP and antenna),knowing that in
lebanon there is no FCC..?
Finally ,I want to install an AP on the top roof of each building
and make a non wireless connection between 5 to 10 users PC and
the AP ; will the AP be sufficient to connect the wires or an
additional Hub is needed? what sort of cable and network card is
needed ?

thanks

Interested to start a Wireless ISP in a rural area in Africa, or maybe Asia or anywhere else? BusinessCom has announced the availability of a unique VSAT system called PEP-iDirect which is designed to provide satellite Internet backbones for WISP businesses with global worldwide coverage.

PEP-iDirect is a perfect platform to start up the WISP business with much lower costs than it would take with standard SCPC systems and terrestrial circuits if the local telecom markets are monopolized. At the same time PEP-iDirect allows to maintain the high quality of backbone service provided which is equal to a dedicated SCPC or even better. BusinessCom's PEP-iDirect solution operates on C-Band beams on Loral Skynet Telstar-10 and NewSkies NSS-7 satellites as well as Ku-Band beam on Telstar-12. Using C-Band and Turbo Product Codes, the PEP-iDirect solution is stabile against any weather conditions such as African rainfalls or dust storms in Iraq. The system can support up to 1500 subscribers with no equipment upgrades as well as little as 50 subscribers, still staying cost effective for enterpreneurs.

The iDirect Infiniti 5100 - a VSAT heart of PEP-iDirect solution uses a small box with no moving parts, that includes standard routing features such as Static IP, RIP2, IGMPv2, DHCP, NAT, DNS caching, and VLAN tagging, It delivers a 'hot' 10/100 Ethernet port to connect to your networking gear. The satellite modem, router, TCP acceleration, and QoS engine are all in a single, reliable, integrated package. Service prices start at 464 US Dollars per month for a shared 512 kbit/s Rx and 64 kbit/s Tx circuit and 5000 US Dollars one-time fee for the equipment package, including antenna, transmitter, receiver, satellite modem and the set of cables. Ku-Band equipment packages are priced as low as 2500 US Dollars.

One of the most important aspects of PEP-iDirect with iDirect Infiniti 5100 modem is the availability to support iSCPCv2 circuits which are completely dedicated. Thus, the same PEP-iDirect earth station can support both shared and dedicated circuit configurations which allow to operate with capacities of up to 22 mbit/s CIR.
