cancel AOL - Cancel Americ Online - dialup problems !
Guys few have asked how to cancel other isps, so I thought I should mention how to cancel aol as well.
As most know cancelling AOL is fun , the reason being AOL does not let you cancel, they give you free months but they dont let you cancel, and thats why cancelling aol is so fun.
I know people that have got the whole yr free, because every month they are trying to cancel aol and every month aol gives them a free month. So my tip is very simple to all these aol users, just say you want to cancel and they will keep you free month of dialup internet access. What else can you want/
Well if you do want to cancel then do this and be very firm:
To cancel your AOL account, call 1-888-265-8008. Or mail AOL at PO Box 1600 / Ogden, UT 84401 or FAX 801-622-7969

I can't get the fax no. to work... I get no answer signal. Since I am now living outside the US I don't want to phone them! Any ideas on an e-mail address or another fax number?

Cancel AOL
If I can't contact them to cancel, how can I contact them to get an extension of free service?
As I am not a US resident currently... I can't use their service.
Your response doesn't answer my question. Does anyone have an alternate fax number to that listed above, or e-mail address so I can cancel my subscription?

Canceling AOL sucks!
To the person who is trying to use the fax, try this number 1-904-232-4879. Have fun if you do have to call, it is ridiculus what they put you through and still don't let you cancel. The free months aren't worth any of it...and to think I used to like thier service. What a joke!

Re: i like my aol
cancel aol never wrote:
just ask to cancel aol and they will give you a few months for free so why cancel AOL?
Because AOL sucks. Next to WebTV it's the lowest common denominator of internet surfing.
I recently had to deal with canelling their service and it is every bit as difficult as people tell you. Being firm isn't enough. Don't even bother arguing with the bastard you talk to. I attempted to say "cancel it, cancel it, cancel it, cancel it, cancel it, cancel it I'm a salesman too, i understand, you don't have to do this, I don't want it," over and over again while the employee on the line continued to babble crap about free months, virus protection, and various other bs. I swore at him with the dreaded f-bomb and was asked ever so politely to watch my language. Finally I gave up and made him think "oh yea, i've got this punk" as he finished off his speech with "so, with all those benefits in mind, can I sign you up for more free months." I simply said, "please cancel it now," and he finally obliged. Total time spent cancelling ended up around 20 or 25 minutes.
You would not believe what we just went through with them. My dad had to take a pill for his heart the operator got him so upset, the operator told me that he could wait for my dad to come back to the phone....but he was not going to cancel the service and that if he was really having heart trouble that he would call some one but I should come up with something better. I sent a complaint to the BBB.com and to my horror do you know that AOL has no complaints showing up in the past 3 years....so if you are having trouble please...please go to BBB.com and file a complaint with the better business bureau. They need to hear from you!
I cancelled AOL service before a month but still they charge me. I asked with their technical support person and he asked me for my Cancellation ID and problem is that i dont remeber my cancellation ID. Is there any way to collect my cash back? Please help me.

Canceling AOL
To scott or anybody having that same problem, I had the same thing happen to me a while back and when I called them back after receivng another of the bills they had been sending and was now threatening to be sent to a collection agency. I explained to them I had called 3 months ago and requested to have my service cancelled. The man looked in the phone records for my account (which they do keep regardless of what they tell you) and saw that I was telling the truth and had my bill cancelled and turned my service off. [/b]
I cancelled AOL and also experienced a rather frustrating high-pressure, sales tactics. What worked immediately is when I asked directly, "ARE YOU TELLING ME YOU ARE REFUSING TO CANCEL MY ACCOUNT?" I recall repeating the question adding, "I JUST WANT TO MAKE ABSOLUTELY CLEAR YOU ARE DENYING MY REQUEST TO CANCEL MY ACCOUNT." They cancelled it right away.
Unfortunately, this is one of those instances where you have to assert yourself as if you were a lawyer building a case to sue. It gets their attention and prompt result.
