troubleshooting dsl is a paid dsl has many problems
I hate troubleshooting dsl its a pain and i gave up after my 10th call to the phone company and the 2nd time my phone line went dead, i think the best option for troubleshooting dsl is to just switch to CABLE internet Serive.
DSL is slow, has a one yr contract, and is not as reliable as cable. Thats my thoughts on DSL and troubleshooting dsl internet service

yea.. they over sell their lines so all their customers have to fight for bandwidth instead of being able to get what they pay for.. they do that to even their t1 line business customers... and their support people WILL lie to you...
they are so big they don't care about the customer as they have so many of them is what I think.
an "insider"
PS. cable isn't better than dsl though... it all depends on the isp you are getting service from. 99% of them oversell their lnes to make more money and screw the customer. the customer doesn't know this of course... they just run dog slow ..... and try getting someone to come forward and risk losing their job...
if you have had your dsl modem for under one year then verizon will replace it if it is defective, so long as you mail the old one back (paid postage comes with the new modem)

caps lock is under the tab key
mr caps lock happy man...
...maybe its your software.... ^.-
run ad-aware, etc...remove spyware...run it again....and again...t o be sure
be sure you have firewall/AV
try to uninstall and re-install internet explorer.
ask your tech to run a line test...if he says its good. its probably good.
ask another tech to run a line test...if he says its good..it IS good.
try a shorter phone cable (less than 12 feet, plugged directly into the jack)
this means no filters or splitters. all other phones filtered or unplugged.
check for other things that use the phone line...alarm systems, tivo, etc...
run your speed tests infospeed.verizon.net, if your getting good speed, but pages load slow, clear your cookies/cache/history, and powercycle all equipment,
check system resources. make sure there isnt too much stuff in the backround going.
turn off your file-sharing when trying to browse...most people should know this, but the all caps makes me wonder about you...

dsl problems
I've had the same problem lately. It seems from around 3pm-10pm DSL is really slow. Hmm...let me re-phrase that... When I click on a link or type in an URL it seems it takes about 20-30 seconds to "look up" the website. Almost like the DNS server is overloaded. Then I get an error back saying something like "msn.com" could not be found. Please check the name and try again. Maybe it's the places I'm going, I'm not sure. Maybe Hotmail, Msn.com, etc that are very busy. Anyway if I keep on clicking, after a while it eventually finds the website. Although I do notice that when I get to a site and start downloading a large file like goes pretty good. This "can't find the website" problem has been happening for the past few months. Somebody I work with said it was happening to them too Anyway I called up the support line, and they ran me through a battery of things, and then they said the same thing "you have a software problem...I can give you a number to call Microsoft for help." I asked what they were going to do, and the tech said that if need be they would help me format the drive and reinstall my software (windows). I said "I can do that!" So I backed up everything onto an external drive and formated my C: drive. I reinstalled Windows XP and the DSL software, and I still have the same problem. I don't suppose I got a virus that fast. I didn't even set up my email account. And I wasn't able to get spyware cuz the first thing I typed in was "www.hotmail.com" and it wouldn't come up. I did put on XP's firewall before I went online (the old SP1a firewall). I'm thinking that DSL is gowing through some growing pains.
I am really starting to hate me DSL. We've had phone line problems for years, and it limits our DSL to about 40k Download speed. I have friends with the same ISP getting 180k+.
We also have broadband connection in our office and we had same problem from last more than 20 days. You are lucky bcoz you get 40 KBPS speed but in our office internet was getting down when some one call to our office or someone from our office make call. We tried to contact our local telephone exchange but they didnt come to our office and fix the issue. Than we went down and found problem in our wiring and we fix the problem. I suggest u to check your telephone internel wiring and if you find any loose connection than make it proper and you have done.
