Problems with Juno disconnecting me
Hello Friends !!
I've been using Juno for over a year now with no problems. I've allways hooked up between 16,000 and 28,000 bps. My local phone company must have done some line changes, because in the last week everytime I dial up to Juno my modem connects at 48,000bps. That's great, but there is one problem. As soon as the Juno home page comes up and I try to click on any link, Juno disconects me. Every Time. BUT, about every 1 out of 10 tries, it will connect up at 32,000 and then it will stay connected. Why do I get dissconected if my modem connects up at 48,000bps?
It sounds like there have definitely been some equipment upgrades somewhere along the line in your internet service for your connection to improve that much.
Sometimes a problem with new equipment from the phone company can cause a problem with older hardware in your PC. For example, the local phone company could have updated thier modem banks to newer modems, v.92 maybe? and if this is the case, your connection speed may be much faster like you said, but the modem and operating system may be having a hard time with the connection.
In my experience a lot of the time, this is a driver issue that can be updated from the computer manufaturer if they offer updates. (Dell, Gateway, etc.) or you can sometimes get a newer updated driver from Windows Update or the manufacturer of the modem (US Robotics, etc.)
My first thought is that... look for updated drivers for the modem. This is a common problem, and it will only help your connection, not hurt it, so it might be a good place to start in my opinion.
You can also try in your modem settings to slow the speed of the modem.
I've attached 2 images that will show how to do this. First go to your Dialup Connection Properties, and on the General Tab, Select Modem Configuration. You will see a drop down menu like the one in the second attached image where you can drop it down a notch or two, and dial in again, and see if that helps.
That usually won't slow down your overall speed, but it's a way for your modem to control the ammount of data rushing in.
If neither of these options are helpful, let us know the operating system you are using, and I'll look further into it.
