If you want to remove your old stuff once it finished your Win XP installation it still shows your old account there & also acquire some space on your HDD. Remember, It is not deleted & not accessible. So you have to complete format of your HDD using fdisk & after you can install Win XP Os on your computer.

Use fdisk to remove all partitions and format your HDD. Now you can reinstall your old OS using the recovery disk. But, I think that you want to go for Win XP then During the install it should prompt you and asks your to Reformat or not.

Don’t worry…
First create a bootable floppy of your current OS. Insert Bootable floppy into your floppy drive and try to reboot using it & go for command prompt. Here you format your HDD using format & then you can install Win XP on that.

Please go on www.bootdisk.com that helps you to create bootable floppy and after that you can use it for to format HDD.
After formatting HDD used fdisk to re-partitioning of your HDD.
