Question: hijackthis.exe – how to remove hijackthis.exe process ?

There was some problem of speed in My Computer, when I was monitoring the Windows Task Manager’s Process List and I found hijackthis.exe. Does any one knows about hijackthis ? Is it any system process or user process ? I have been using Norton Antivirus and it has not detected it as virus or worm, so is it related to any spy ware? Please tell me how this file hijackthis.exe showed up and how can I remove this hijackthis.exe process and will it generate any windows error ? Is there any hijackthis.exe removal tool or utility available ?

hijackthis.exe uses 75% of my CPU memory. Yesterday my system work very slow and when I checked my Task Bar I found hijackthis.exe running and using 75% of CPU usage. That’s really weird for me. Why these occur to my system? I want to fix this trouble. I even can’t stop this process by click on End Task.
