hpcmpmgr.exe - how to remove hpcmpmgr.exe process ?
Question: hpcmpmgr.exe how to remove hpcmpmgr.exe process ?
There was some problem of speed in My Computer, when I was monitoring the Windows Task Managers Process List and I found hpcmpmgr.exe. Does any one knows about hpcmpmgr ? Is it any system process or user process ? I have been using Norton Antivirus and it has not detected it as virus or worm, so is it related to any spy ware? Please tell me how this file hpcmpmgr.exe showed up and how can I remove this hpcmpmgr.exe process and will it generate any windows error ? Is there any hpcmpmgr.exe removal tool or utility available ?

If you go to hp.com and seach "hpcmpmgr.exe" it will give you a fix file. They claim their file gets corrupted and causes this problem. They posted the fix on their website in July. It is free to download.
According to HP...
Issue
When attempting to shut down the computer, the Microsoft error report dialog box may display. Upon submitting this error to Microsoft, it may be identified by Microsoft that this situation is caused by Hewlett-Packard's hpcmpmgr.exe file.
Information
The hpcmpmgr.exe program is installed on most computers to support HP products, such as the HP Photosmart, Deskjet, and All-in-One printers. The error message is generated when the program becomes corrupt or conflicts with other system components. In order to resolve this issue, follow the steps below to install an updated version of hpcmpmgr.exe that will resolve this error.

This process hpcmpmgr.exe used to contact HP Servers. This process is not necessarily required for HP devices to work properly. You can remove this link if you want. Search on your computer and deleted it.
hpcmpmgr - hpcmpmgr.exe is not suspected as virus. This process belongs to HP Products. If you are using any HP Porducts it available in your task manager. If you dont want it you can remove it. But you can continue with hpcmpmgr.exe, it will not create any problem.

Hpcmpmgr.exe error?
Every time I shut down my computer bcoz every 15 minutes I get a dialogue box, End now and that says Please wait Ending Program. Hpcmpmgr.exe is in the title bar of the window. Then that goes away and another dialogue box with two buttons, End Now and Cancel, pops up saying that the program is not responding. After about 10 seconds the second one disappears and the computer shuts down. Please guide how to resolve this problem?

How to disable hpcmpmgr.exe
I too have had problems with this program, and my photosmart still works fine with it disabled. I would get a dialogue box in the task bar which would immediatly minimize any games playing or cut out of a screensaver or slide show. I have also patched it and have no faith since the problem recurs. anyways for the not-so-tech-savy (not saying you are one, but just incase one stumbles across this thread and needs a step-by-step approach):
1. Start menu-->run--> type msconfig--> hit enter
2. go to startup tab, un-check hpcmpmgr box
3. Click apply, close window, restart computer
4. Your computer should now have started WITHOUT hpcmpmgr running, double check in task manager under processes tab (CTRL-ALT-DLT).
5. start a search for hpcmpmgr (make sure to search hidden and sytem files under advanced search option)
6. delete hpcmpmgr.exe
7. I also deleted the overland folder in program files, though I made a backup in case it ends up being critical.
HP makes some of the finest hardware out there, but their software is CRAP!
I hope this helped as it did me. if you are iffy about deleting it, just deselct in in startup in msconfig.
This worked for me to fix hpcmpmgr.exe error. This process used lots of my memory and after follwoing steps as you suggested my computer work fast. Thanks for writing
