Question:what is dumprep.exe process ? Is dumprep.exe any virus or worm ?
There was some problem of speed in My Computer, and in the Windows Task Manager’s Process List I found dumprep.exe. Is it any normal system process, error or is it any error exe, worm, virus or any spy ware? It looks to be part of windows process list, but I am not sure and want to remove dumprep.exe Process. Please advise me what should I do and how do I remove this process? |

Microsoft process |

Dumprep.exe is a Microsoft process that runs when a program has a critical error and cannot be restored. Basically it comes with XP/PRO. It's a non-essential program but I'm not sure how to stop it from running. I would search microsoft.com until you find information on it or a simple google.com search might yield better results.
It's not a virus or anything although spyware can assume the same name as this Microsoft software (as with any process, spy ware can "mask" itself as a legitimate OS software). You can run Search and Destroy, CW Shredder, Hijack This and a slew of other free utilities to get rid of spy ware on your system if you suspect you have it. Hijack This is the best tool (do a search in google and it will come up) HOWEVER it is a very complicated program and should only be used with extreme caution. I'll say this once, LOOK UP EVERYTHING that Hijack This brings up on your system with a google or Yahoo search before clicking remove as it brings up essential programs that you need to run your system as well as spyware threats.
Okay, that being said, a better description of dumprep.exe that you would recognize are those annoying messages that ask you to send data to Microsoft when a program crashes. It either asks you to ignore the error or send data to Microsoft. I always choose to ignore the message instead of sending it to Microsoft. One, because I'm paranoid and I don't want Microsoft to know what programs I'm running (not because there is anything top secret on my system, I just don't like big business knowing my business) and secondly because when you send the data to microsoft it builds a file that is stored on your system. Eventually the file becomes very large and you have to go through all this hooha to delete. It's just annoying.
I wouldn't worry about the dumprep.exe process too much but you should run spyware blockers and at least run Search & Destroy on your system just to eliminate the possibility of spyware. |

Hello,
The dumprep.exe process is used by Windows to create a report of errors as they occur in your system, as a text file. Upon serious errors this program will write the details to a text file and request the information be sent to Microsoft. This process can be terminated if you do not wish to send error reports to Microsoft.
dumprep.exe is flagged as a system process and does not appear to be a security risk. However, removing Dump Report Utility may adversely impact your system.
The Spy Boot database currently registers dumprep.exe to Microsoft.
This is part of Microsoft Windows XP (and later versions), in-built fault logging software. |

| I now have the same problem. It seems to be when I try to use hotmail, it says a script is causing it to run slow. If I try to end it the pc freezes up and I have to restart it. I looked at the processes running snd it is using up 80%. I don't want to mess with the registry but can't put up with this freezing up all the time. |

Dumprep.exe error when I open a video file. |
|
|
Hi Guise,
I got dumprep.exe error when I open video. Dosen't matter if it's windows media player, UltraPlayer Digital Media Player or winmap the following occurs when I try to open video.
Extreme Slowdown. This seems to be caused by several instances of dumprep.exe hogging resources.
I do not even use video much except for a few of my MIDI music tutorials, so I'm unsure how or why this happened.
Thanks for your help in advance, have been desperately trying to fix this problem. |

Hi,
Basically Dumprep.exe is short for Dump Reporting Tool created by Microsoft Windows XP and this program is popup when your computer have some serious errors. This dumprep.exe report the problem to Microsoft directly. In your case dumprep.exe do its job thats why it popup frequently. I suggest you to run any updated antivirus application and also use some spyware removal tool to get rid of dumprep.exe problem.
Hope this may work for you |
