Question: msmsgs.exe - what is msmsgs.exe removal process ?

I have not noticed 'msmsgs.exe' showing in my Task Manager, under the Tab "process" header before on my computer,I noticed the 'msmsgs' just now and I am a bit concerned and so I want to know what this 'msmsgs' does and how to remove the 'msmsgs.exe' from my computer ? Also I want to know whether it is a system process or user process and Is it because of some error in any program exe, virus or worm? Please tell me how this file msmsgs.exe showed up and do I need to remove this file ? And is Removal process easy?

Hello All,

msmsgs.exe is not virus or worm.

msmsgs.exe is Windows Messenger AKA MSN Messenger.

The Windows Messenger from Microsoft provides Online Chat and Instant Messaging. A tray bar is also installed alongside this process for easy access to its features which include Internet chat, file sharing and audio/video conferencing.

If you don't use Windows Messenger, you can disable it as follows:
-> Start
-> Programs
-> Windows Messenger
-> Tools
-> Options
-> Preferences.

Uncheck "Run this program when Windows Starts".

This is a non-essential process. Disabling or enabling this is down to user preference.

The msmsgs.exe file is located in the C:\Windows\System32 folder. In other cases, msmsgs.exe is a virus, spyware, trojan or worm!

Hi All,

Don’t worry msmsgs.exe. It is not Virus or worm. msmsgs.exe is file of Windows Messenger. It is installed with Windows but if you don’t use Windows Messenger and you want to remove it.
