Question:what is lucoms~1.exe process ? Is lucoms~1.exe any virus or worm ?
There was some problem of speed in My Computer, and in the Windows Task Manager’s Process List I found lucoms~1.exe. Is it any normal system process, error or is it any error exe, worm, virus or any spy ware? It looks to be part of windows process list, but I am not sure and want to remove lucoms~1.exe Process. Please advise me what should I do and how do I remove this process? |

Hi,
I am not 100% sure but guess this is some Norton Antivirus process.
Probably a pre-fetched image of the LiveUpdate Engine COM Module, LuComServer.EXE. |

Ignore the above |

| Lucoms~1.exe is to do with liveupdate in symantec products. The page that the above refers to just lists lucoms~1.exe in the processes that the beagle worm attempts to stop running! |

Look at scheduled tasks under start/accessories/system tools and open the task for live update for norton antivirus. Sounds like yours is running too often? Mine is set for once every 4 hours. I didn't like the fact it didn't check at startup so i added the line in the scheduled tasks to my registry so it runs at startup. That is cause i'm only on this machine in the evenings and sometimes that 4 hour window misses the time I'm on.
Good luck. I'm pretty sure it is just live update from symantec and nothing to worry about at all. I see it briefly at every startup since i added live update to run at startup so I'm satisfied that's all it is.

| I have similar problem. I checked the scheduled task, the Symantec Netdect was schedule every 4 hours. No task is scheduled for every 10 ~ 15 min. What else can I do? |

Tom,
Try shutting off live update for a while and watch to see if it goes away... to rule that out. That's about all I can think of...if it is live update then I'd start searching the symantec database for a solution. If not, I don't have anything else to offer right now. Mine is showing up predictably when live update runs. ?

You are wrong Justin. lucoms.exe is used by Symantec Internet Security and if you are using Symantec products its not safe to turn off lucoms.exe process. This process is used to give you latest security threats. Once again if you are using Symantec Products its not advisable to shut off lucoms.exe process.
Regards,
Tod. |
