how can i specify correctly my proxy settings to allow symantec's security downloads ?

Not quite sure what you mean by proxy settings? However, for Norton Internet Security you can program it to automatically update. Open Norton Internet Security. Click on "Options". Then click on "Live Update". Then click on "Enable Live Update". Click on "Notify me when...". Click on "Personal Firewall" "Intrusion Detection" "AntiSpam" "Productivity Control Web site List" and click on "Automatically update my protection" for each one of the items. Your Norton Internet Security will now update on a regular basis when you go online.

You also need to make sure you allow Norton Live Update to access the internet and are not blocking it with a anti Spyware program or blocking it with a firewall. Very Happy
