You get what you paid for... |

While this is not always true, it turned out true for me in the last 2 days. I went through two cancellations. First was Earthlink that proved to be the worst nightmare in my life so far. It took a whole day to download this thing, and after all said and done and downloaded, I could not get their Access thingy going. So, I contact their tech (good they have an online chat) and when he says to uninstall and reinstall... I say no thanks, I am not going through this nightmare again, I want to cancel, NOW! Then I called their rep, who of course, tried to keep me and offered a few deals, one which I took, the line the sinker and all. It was PeoplePC. This one downloaded fairly fast, but still, I could not get their Accelerator going; the plan I had to click on, was not the same that Earthlink signed me up for, and generally, I don't like the idea that I had to use my browser. And oh, the disconnections. By that time I was pretty much fed up, so here I am, calling their rep. They have a few phone numbers which all connect to the same message that basically says that this is unusually busy time, so call later; but if you stay on the phone, in a while you hear another message saying that the average waiting time is six minutes. See, they are trying to discourage you from calling, as they know already that you pressed the Cancellation button. The waiting time wasn't that bad, but when the tech got on the phone, she tries to keep me (of course! I should have known by now). She tells me to confirm it with whoever I talked to at Earthlink. I say no thanks, (I was trying to be polite), there is nothing to confirm, I just wanna be cancelled. She asks, how long did you have PeoplePC? Not very long, people usually keep us for about a month at least. I just had to be firm and kept on saying, no thanks, I want to cancel. And what did you say your name was? Rita? I guess she got the message that I was keeping track. I was tape recording too, just in case. My state has a one party consent law.
Anyway, she tried to come up with more offers, and I kept on asking about the confirmation number. My perseverance paid off as finally I got cancelled. Do you think AOL has put some voodoo on them? Just kidding. Am still thinking about the greener pastures. This time, MSN may be? Has anyone have any experiences with MSN? I don't want to start trying them today (although they do advertise some great offers), because I want to catch my breath first. By the way, both Earthlink and PeoplePC have the same street address. Hmm.... |
