improve speeds
There are a few ways you can improve connection speeds for your internet connection.
You have to understand that the media used for dial up and the media used for broadband are of two totally different types. Now what i mean by media is the type of wires use to transfer data. Of course dial up connections use phone lines. Basic household phone lines, everyone has seen them and most likely has handled them. Keep in mind how thin they are.
Broadband medias are alot different, alot thicker. Catagory 5 cables are twice, three times the size of a regular phone line. They also use a coaxial cables, which are the same cable you use for your cable tv. Notice the big difference in size, this has alot to do with its ability to transfer information. Thats all the internet is, its a way for you to transfer information from one computer to another. Just driving. You are going to reach a destination faster ifyou take a road that has more lanes and that is newer, better paved. If you take a road that only has 1 or 2 lanes, and is old with alot of cracks and potholes, you will most likely be forced to drive slow (unless you have a huge 4X4 utility vehicle). With that said, please be aware that with certain types of media, you are only capable of reaching certain speeds. Point blank, you wont be able to have broadband connection speeds on a dial up service, feel me?
But whatever the case may be, When you are on the internet and notice speeds are slower then usual. Close out of other applications that are using up the bandwidth. If you are playing an online game, turn off your internet radio, stop chatting, close everything that uses the internet besides the game. That way the bandwidth will be dedicated to you playing the game. Each operation you run, your bandwidth is split. If you narrow it down, your connection becomes stronger, catching on?
There are also applications all over the internet that help boost connection speeds. I have always been skeptical of these applications, but i recently have tried one out (i dont want to do any promoting so i wont release the name) and i've noticed dramatic changes in my speeds. Now you have to keep in mind, the internet also has peak/prime hours when people are most likely connected all at once, which will for sure cause for connection speeds to be slow.
Your connection speed is in your hands. It is up to you if you want to go faster or not.
To add to that there are several ways to improve your connection speeds:
Try to use phone lines that are not more than 15 yrs. old. Common affects of lines that have been damaged are static noise.
Other devices connected to the line - consider the fact that the more devices you have connected to the phone line you're using the more traffic you are using and speeds will be slower. This applies to phones, answering machines, fax machines, etc. that are connected to the line, even if they're in other rooms. Try removing all other devices from the line you are using and connect.
The distance between your computer and the wall - Use lines that are about 6 ft. long. You do not want the travel distance to be too far as speeds will be slower the longer the line is. Also, if you have splitters, surge suppressors, or other connectors between the modem and the plug in the wall, these can affect your connection. Try removing them, with only the cord between the wall and the modem. Don't use too many items or will divert traffic that could otherwise be used for higher connection speeds.
