Best free firewall.Comodo's firewall is top-rated in three leading computer magazines as the best free firewall -- ranking only slightly behind two others in the most comprehensive tests. Comodo also fares best among free programs in user reviews. Although not flawless in leak tests (malware programs that try to enable your computer for use by hackers), version 2.4 is one of four firewalls rated excellent by Matousec.com (of 42 tested). Reviewers like the basic and advanced operation options. With the basic setting, the firewall isn't intrusive, but the advanced setting allows more control and professional-level protection.

Hello Scott,

Well it turns out to be my Defence+ that was creating a slow shutdown. Still the guys over at the comodo forums have not been able to help me prevent the problem. For now, I have turned off Defence+ but left on Comodo firewall. What does Defence+ do exactly?

Do I really need it?

OMG are you seriously recommending one of the worst softwares that I have used in decades?! Its so bad that i would rather using windows vista or windows firewall!!...

Anyways, I would recommend zone alarm, anyday. You know i actually remember my boss telling me that comodo reps keep calling and bothering him about getting a enterprise solution the workplace and the cost would be paid off its self, but during trial, it caused a problem that had us worthless for 2 days! it took forever to get our systems back up and running.

now you can say that our admins are stupid to be certificed redhat admins or ccna certified nerds or even cisco hardware certifed. O well. I guess if those nerds can make it work right on the computers, the rest of us just should stick to windows firewall or maybe zone alarm.
