Hello,

Since last two weeks my laptop is regularly showing blue screen of death. I have new acer laptop with very good configuration and 1 GB RAM.

I like to watch videos and movies on youtube, but after few seconds windows shows me blue screen.

I cleaned up temp. files, defragmented hard drive, checked for virus but still no luck.

Is it operating system error?

Should I format and reinstall windows xp?

Is it memory error?

I think 1 GB is good memory, should I upgrade RAM?

From Wikipedia,

The Blue Screen of Death (also known as a stop error, BSoD, bluescreen, or Blue Screen of Doom) is an error screen frequently displayed by certain operating systems, most notably Microsoft Windows, after encountering a critical system error which can cause the system to shut down to prevent damage.

Bluescreens on NT-based Windows systems can be caused by poorly written device drivers or malfunctioning hardware. In the Win9x era, incompatible DLLs or bugs in the kernel of the operating system could also cause bluescreens. Sometimes, when the CPU is hit in any way, the computer may restart and show the BSoD.

Two of the most common reasons for BSoDs are:

1] Problems that occur with incompatible versions of DLLs. Windows loads these DLLs into memory when they are needed by application programs; if versions are changed, the next time an application loads the DLL it may be different from what the application expects. These incompatibilities increase over time as more new software is installed, and is one of the main reasons why a freshly-installed copy of Windows is more stable than an "old" one.

2] Faulty or poorly written device drivers, hardware incompatibilities, or damaged hardware may also cause a BSoD.

Check, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Screen_of_Death for more details.

Follow steps:

1] Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer to boot from CD.

2] When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.

If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.

3] Then type the chkdsk /r command

Let that run through and then restart the machine after it finishes.

If that doesnt fix it, run the Windows XP Repair Installation.
