I think my ISP may be ripping me off. |

So, I am subscribed to Centurytel's plan for 1.5MB/s down and around 250kb/s up... I was downloading from a torrent at around 60 KB/s and at the same time I was downloading from Filefront.com at around 110 kb/s which I KNOW can't be right because filefront ALWAYS has awesome speeds, when I had cable at my previous location I easily got over 1MB/s download speeds from there, So I canceled my torrent download and the file from filefront IMMEDIATELY went to ~185kb/s . So I called up my ISP and I talked to a technician or a monkey looking at a computer screen but I will go with the latter and explained my problem and he said he was on a 12MB/s plan and rarely saw over 200kb/s , after that statement I opted out of any further explanation to do my own research and that's why I'm here, I did a speed test at speedtest.net and got a 1.5MBs reading.. what gives??!!!
**Edit I agreed to a 1 year contract for 1.5MB/s download, and I called tech supposet to confrim the 1.5Mega Bytes and they said that was right, and one thing lead to another and I realise that I am getting 1.5Mega BITS not BYTES... and they are trying to tell me that bit is the same thing is byte which I know is wrong times 8, what can be done??** |
