Hi,

Interlopers: Viruses, spyware or other malware slow down your DSL connection. Use your computer's security software or a free program like AVG to detect and remove suspicious programs (see "Resources").
Hitchhikers: Sharing a DSL connection amongst computers, knowingly or not, causes things to slow down. Encrypt your network to avoid unauthorized piggybackers.

Hope I'm clear about this...you have a DSL modem. This is connected with an ethernet wire to the WAN slot on your wireless router. The USB card is your wifi connection to the wireless router and that does not work anymore. Also you say that if you connect to the router from one of the LAN slots with an ethernet wire to the computer that doesn't work all the time either.
frame relay
A high-speed packet switching protocol used in wide area networks (WANs). Providing a granular service of up to DS3 speed (45 Mbps), it has become popular for LAN to LAN connections across remote distances, and services are offered by most major carriers.

If I use it only as a router, it works great without any problem. But when I plugin the adsl cable and use the modem as well it hangs within few hours. I have 2 lines from 2 different isps and it hangs on both lines as well as on different pcs. When in hanged status following is observed

Ethernet leds are off even tho cables r connected
Adsl and internet leds stay on even if I remove the adsl cable out
cant ping the router/replugging solves the problem for some time.
even if im not using the conenction at all like in overnight it will still hang withing 10-12 hrs
I called belkin support they got me to update fimrware to 7.0.0.27 but still same problem.they replaced the router which has same model and version (7000) and still the same problem even in new one.Firewall is on i have tried modulation type etc but not sucess.

Belkin support is polite, helpful, impressive but not effective in this case.

So, I am subscribed to Centurytel's plan for 1.5MB/s down and around 250kb/s up... I was downloading from a torrent at around 60 KB/s and at the same time I was downloading from Filefront.com at around 110 kb/s which I KNOW can't be right because filefront ALWAYS has awesome speeds, when I had cable at my previous location I easily got over 1MB/s download speeds from there, So I canceled my torrent download and the file from filefront IMMEDIATELY went to ~185kb/s . So I called up my ISP and I talked to a technician or a monkey looking at a computer screen but I will go with the latter and explained my problem and he said he was on a 12MB/s plan and rarely saw over 200kb/s , after that statement I opted out of any further explanation to do my own research and that's why I'm here, I did a speed test at speedtest.net and got a 1.5MBs reading.. what gives??!!!

**Edit I agreed to a 1 year contract for 1.5MB/s download, and I called tech supposet to confrim the 1.5Mega Bytes and they said that was right, and one thing lead to another and I realise that I am getting 1.5Mega BITS not BYTES... and they are trying to tell me that bit is the same thing is byte which I know is wrong times 8, what can be done??**

I was expecting clicking and buzzing. How many phones do you have? Try and isolate each filter and see if it continues. I would connect the modem directly to the wall jack, disconnect all but one phone, and attempt to call, then try with the other filter. It will eliminate them as a possible cause and won't take very long at all.

It is possible that a short is the cause.

                                      Hi Friends,

I have had a few companies express interest in GetDSL.net ... but none so far have named a price they'd be willing to pay. Most ask if I'd be interested in redirecting the domain name to their site and getting a commission for each sale that comes through the name, but I don't like that idea much.

What do you think I should be asking for it?

Thanks,
Hello Scott,

It varies from state to state. We really need to know what state you are in.

Check and see what their unlimited plan is, you may have to switch over to business class.

The setup price sounds about right, although it is a rip off IMHO.

You will need a Terminal Adapter (TA) and/or a router modem.

You will also need an ISP, the ISDN line cost does not include access to the internet.
For reliability I would suggest finding a local ISP that supports ISDN. Otherwise, SBC/Yahoo or MSN might work for you.

IF/WHEN you get ISDN working, it works excellent for most gaming. Not so well for downloading patches/maps. (128 is max)

Good luck

I have had a mostly solid DSL line with Earthlink for 7 years. Last Monday I could not connect to the internet. I disconnected my router, UPS and filters and set up a direct connection and used XP's WinPoet to try to login. Now I get Error 678. I also tried a different phone jack, swapped out phone lead and ethernet cables, and even tried it with my notebook computer.

Called Earthlink tech support. Told them all of the above, which they ignored. They had me doing the same troubleshooting again and again and again until finally Saturday they said it was a line problem and would have the phone company work on it. Yesterday they called me and said it was repaired and that it was something in the CO.

It is not fixed. I still get Error 678. The tech now tells me it's my modem and that I need a new one. I'm not sure I believe them. How did I go from "the phone company fixed it" to "it's your modem". Plus past experience: They said my modem was bad 2 years ago and it ended up being a line problem. In addition, I have a backup modem (same model), which also gets error 678.

My question is this: Is there a way to test the modem? I use a Speedstream 5260. (It's one that should be upgradeable to a 5660, but I have not been able to get it to ftp the upgrade firmware.) I can telnet into it, but I'm not sure how to interpret the results.

I asked the earthlink tech if we could test the modem, and he said no, it was too old, the firmware was probably worn out. His exact words, "worn out". Then he went into a sales pitch on buying a new modem or signing a year contract. I will not do that so my options are to solve the problem myself or go with a different ISP.

Any help is appreciated. I have run out of patience. Eight days now with no internet is unacceptable. Earthlink's technical support is abysmal.
