The Possible solution for error 629 is may as under:
1.	Check the dialer settings,
if IPX/SPX is checked and TCP/IP not. This causes such error.
The only two things that should be checked are “Enable Software Compression” and “TCP/IP”.
Also disable DNS.
2. Make sure that the Microsoft VPN Adapter is not selected under connect using.
3.	Recreate the dialer.
3.	Try disconnecting any phones, caller ID boxes, answering machines, line splitters from line. Plug modem directly into the line.
4.	Try using a different phone cord between modem and phone socket. Check for line noise. And reboot the machine.
5.	If you are using Windows NT, Windows XP or Windows 2000,
In the Security Tab in Phonebook, make sure that "accept any authentication including clear text" is checked.
6.	Check the Network Control Panel settings.
There are several reason why you may be receiving the error 629. Below are a few examples:
- The modem driver is corrupt
- The DUN connection is dialing an invalid access number
- The modem is not attempting a compatible connection
- Authentication failure (invalid username or password)
- Invalid or corrupt DUN connection settings

take advantage of the tech support your ISP offers.

haha just kidding. error 629 means that the remote computer is closing the port, or disconnecting you for whatever reasons. i think thats what it means.. you might want to hit up your ISP and find out if there is any reason why they are doing this. Other then that, you might want to just reboot your computer and wait a few and try to connect again. make sure your modem and ecryption settings are all correct. ask your ISP about that one though. But there usually isnt any reason for port disconnecting from a remote computer, the error isnt common is what im trying to say.
