To add a little update on this. This problem happens once in a while and it could stick around for a while too. I tried dialing the number manually, verified with 2 separate modems to make sure it is not a modem issue. I was able to connect, see the prompt to login but I cannot type anything.

On a good day, I can login with my username and password and get into a restricted shell. When it go bad, everything I typed is not received. So I can send/recv but the server can only send.

The Win98SE Dial Up Networking will stuck at verifying username and password and after a long (.5 - 1 min) wait, it come back saying the server does not have the service or something. I tried different numbers in my metro area and even different PC and still have the same problem.

This happens to me time and again. I have the DUN settings set to remember the password. Usually, it works fine. But what I do is type in the password by hand in the DUN and redial. It works the second time around.

Try it and if the problem is persist then let me know.
