clean your IE cache, cookies and history. Its a good thing to do here and there. To do this go to Tools/Internet Options and select the General Tab. Here you can delete everything.
if still no go then try updating the mouse drivers

Links not responding, IE 6 freezes when I click a link

Most of the time just recently, when I click a link to anything, anywhere on any random site, my mouse pointer stays as a pointing finger. I can move the mouse, but it's like my browser is just frozen, and I can't click on anything else. I always have to do Ctrl-Alt-Del to end the task, and then it gives me a second box that says "End now" or "Cancel." I choose "End Now" and then it closes out every window I have open. A lot of times I can't even close windows I have open by using the "X" up in the corner, I have to do Ctrl-Alt-Del, and end the task.
I am running Windows XP, IE 6, and I have a firewall, but I turn it off usually because it really slows me down. I have cable internet access.
