Hello,

I also had same problem in my office computer. My CPU usage went to 100% and i was unable to do any work. Then one of my friend suggested me to install ZoneAlaram and after that my CPU usage is in control. I am suggesting you to use ZoneAlaram that can not allow any unknow .exe or other programs to access your computer memory.

Best of luck.
And this is the first time running a brandnew HDD too.... so there was nothing in it... any idea what could be the cause of the problem?

Have been experiencing similar problem -- more frequently in the last weeks. Have XP Pro/SP2. Every so often, machine just gets very slow -- when I check Task Manager, find that rundll32.exe is taking 99% to 100% of CPU. Only way to "release it" is to reboot. Run Norton Viruscan. run Adaware, no issues. Searching for ideas on how to prevent.

I am running XP and experience the same CPU usage 100% problems. When I try to uninstall security patch I get messages that say certain files can't be copied from a certail location. Then if I try to locate them or just close out that screen I get warnings about windows not operating properly if I do continue. I am afraid to continue so I canel out. Can you help?

My PC is useless as it is. Don't know if it's related but IE 6.0 is dog slow and will only function on one of the two admin log-in's on my PC.

I had the exact same problem with the Microsoft Security Update KB35732. System process consuming 100% of CPU. I've never had any serious problems with them prior to this. Now, I'm concerned about rolling this update from other desktops.

Any ideas why this doesn't work?

Thanks for the great info!

I read the same thing, but in my case setting the options to real-time did not help. It took a total of 56 minutes for the system to complete uninstall and reboot.
Has Microsoft come up with a reason for this problem Or fix it?

After running spuninst.exe now.
I was able to boot into safe mode with Command Prompt. Let I will have to Inspect my Current Configuration of my computer.

After installing Security fix KB835732, to the SYSTEM.exe, procressor usage climbs up to 99% of CPU time, and it make the system non-responsible to other processes.

To uninstall it, I did the following
(1) Boot into Safe mode.
(2) Run Task Manager and notice that the SYSTEM process is using 99% of the CPU time.
(3) From Task Manager, set the Priority of the EXPLORER process to real-time, so I get to the control panel.
(4) Run Add/Remove Program from control panel.
(5) Go back to Task Manager and set the Priority of MSHTA.exe to real-time, so that Add/Remove Program can get some CPU time.
(6) Now, Select and Remove "Windows 2000 Hot fix - KB835732".
(7) Go back to Task Manager and set the Priority of "SPUNIST.exe" to real-time, for uninstall program to run.
( Wait a few minutes, and the uninstall program will eventually ask you to click on Finish to reboot..
It took a long time for the system to shutdown and I just unplugged the power.
(9) The machine should become normal after reboot.

I agree it will take a while, but it will come up.
In an alternate way:
Start > Run > CMD, then
C: > CD \WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB835732$\spuninst > spuninst.exe

You must have to reboot your system after doing this.
I have tried to do it in safe mode, but even in safe mode the CPU usage reached at 100%.
I can't bring up the Add/Remove Programs.
Can the updates be removed from Command Prompt?
