I too have had problems with this program, and my photosmart still works fine with it disabled. I would get a dialogue box in the task bar which would immediatly minimize any games playing or cut out of a screensaver or slide show. I have also patched it and have no faith since the problem recurs. anyways for the not-so-tech-savy (not saying you are one, but just incase one stumbles across this thread and needs a step-by-step approach):
1. Start menu-->run--> type msconfig--> hit enter
2. go to startup tab, un-check hpcmpmgr box
3. Click apply, close window, restart computer
4. Your computer should now have started WITHOUT hpcmpmgr running, double check in task manager under processes tab (CTRL-ALT-DLT).
5. start a search for hpcmpmgr (make sure to search hidden and sytem files under advanced search option)
6. delete hpcmpmgr.exe
7. I also deleted the overland folder in program files, though I made a backup in case it ends up being critical.

HP makes some of the finest hardware out there, but their software is CRAP!

I hope this helped as it did me. if you are iffy about deleting it, just deselct in in startup in msconfig.

Does any one knows about hpcmpmgr ? Is it any system process or user process ? I have been using Norton Antivirus and it has not detected it as virus or worm, so is it related to any spy ware? Please tell me how this file hpcmpmgr.exe showed up and how can I remove this hpcmpmgr.exe process and will it generate any windows error ? Is there any hpcmpmgr.exe removal tool or utility available ?
