As an internet provider myself, I just have to jump in here to say something about all of the complaints I am reading about lost connections, poor connect speeds, or can't connect at all.

Now I am not any of the ISP's listed in this section, but as an ISP, I can assure you that connection problems have nothing to do with the ISP itself, and putting direct blame on the ISP and bad mouthing the ISP for it is completely wrong.

Connection problems are caused by several things which I will not get into here as there are too many to discuss. However, if you read the messages you will see that some people are having problems with a specified ISP, and others are not. So why then are those that are blaming the ISP for it when others are not having the same problem. It does not take a genius to figure out that if the ISP is the cause, then all of that ISP's clients will be experiencing the same problem. Not just a few or several within the same general area of town. Yes, location does play a role in it.

In most all cases it is generally phone line conditions between point A and Point B. Point A being you, and Point B is the ISP. So yes, switching ISP's can help the situation. But not because that ISP sucked, but rather your Point B has changed, the line conditions are most likely better. There are of course a lot of other things that can be the cause as well but that is the most common one.

Some of you have most likely been told this by your ISP, and you most likely believed it to be a load of crap your ISP was feeding you to get out of taking the fall. The problem is, IT IS THE TRUTH. Not a load of crap.

Instead of bashing the ISP, perhaps you could be polite and ask the ISP for help locating the problem. Obviously the ISP cannot fix it for you if it is a line problem. That is up to the phone company, but any GOOD ISP can at least help you narrow down the problem.

Another thing that bugs me as an ISP is people nowadays are in to much of a rush to take the needed time to resolve these kinds of issues. These things do take some time to locate and resolve. Most people however would rather fill most of the conversation on the phone with colorful metaphors that do nothing but anger our tech person who is trying to help you.

One thing people have a hard time understanding is that a 56K modem is nothing more than a fancy telephone for a computer, and relies on the public telephone system to function. A 56K modem uses the full bandwidth of a phone line where voice only requires 9600 baud. A modem however requires 56000 baud to function at its best. The phone company is only required to make sure you can clearly hear a person on a telephone. They do not have to guarantee that the quality is high enough that two computers can hear each other talk.

Sorry for the long winded explanation, but I just had to vent some of my frustration with this issue.

virgin broadband i got. was ok i guess till i asked for a mac address from them. cos i am moving to plus.net to get a 2mb since then i have been disconnected so offen. sometimes 5times a hours. which is piss annoying if im playing a online game or something.

just cancel the credit card they are charging on. That way they wont be able to charge you.

Stay away from Peoplepc

Very poor service, I left them, once they connected me at 14.4, then I got 19.2 soon and now they connected me at 21.6, the worst thing is I made lots of calls to cancel, they never answer, then I called them from other place and tell them they r the worst, so think twice and keep my experience in ur mind before go to the Peoplepc

I dont believe you,
Currently i am with virgin, amd i am very satidfiew with its overall services
and you know what as i am with virgin.net from around 25 months, and have very few occation of problems, and i am not working for Virgin.net

but its true, Virgin is not worst

Vergin.net is the Worst ISP, I Found
I cant connect on first time ever. it will connect then sometimes it just doesn't load anyhting and disconnects, some times it works fine then stops and disconnects, One i finally connected after................... 37 attempts
